Totally disagree with Ms. Pat on the DJT take. All you have to do is look at what’s happening in Europe where they’re totally shut down. He has nothing to with that.

Ms. Pat. My brother is about to have a baby, what’s your advice on how I can be a good uncle? Is my job to spoil or to set my future nephew straight when the time comes? Thank you and stay healthy
@gabrieladerre28624 жыл бұрын
I'm not Ms. Pat, but I feel that a good uncle does both! Although, I allow all six of my nieces and nephews to get away with way more shit than I ever call them on.
@currentresident37754 жыл бұрын
Hi. I'll offer you this: Be sensible. When they're babies, little kids, do fun stuff, read to them. Let them see you doing things you love. When they're tweens, show them to discover what they love, talk to them about what they want in life. When they hit about 13-15, they will distance themselves in 1 of 2 ways. They either isolate as lazy broody assholes with clique-y friends. Or, they simply turn inward, anxious. Either way, when they get their cell phones (and their parents don't monitor them), they'll distance even faster. It's normal, part of their growing independence. Don't try and jump on them for anything (no matter how right you are.) They'll just resent you for it. I tried being a parent for some of my nephews bc my sister was too busy either going to college or screwing around with other men. They just grew up and ignored me altogether. And they are the most selfish people I've ever known. I don't hold anything against them, it's just how things rolled out. Be sure to not be a push over. As I really cared for my nephews when they were little, my sister thought nothing of it and pushed them off on me whenever she wanted to go out on her own (which was a lot.) If you do too much, neither the parents nor the kids will be nice to you nor thank you in the end. My sister has never been grateful, acknowledged how much I've helped out with them. But she sure is quick to hang out with friends, FB etc. So, be nice, be there for them, but don't be too involved. Doing that gets you heartache in the end.
