essentially speaking, this is a post Glacial human existence place. It's relatively speaking new compared to other regions of human existence in North America. Human existence followed the glacial retreat opening up this area because of its available fish stocks. Being you said that plant harvesting is not the prime reason people were there but the plentiful river available food stock. It seems to be as Ice retreated plant life followed northward but more importantly the better quality plant life that could survive cold weather followed north.

Exactly. This would have been under a “mile”thick ice sheet prior to, due to its northern location. They found one of the oldest sites in America in Connecticut a few years ago. Dated to 13,000+/- years ago. There’s a few more a little older or similar across the country. The really old stuff is submerged under water where the old shoreline used to be before the glacier melt. 50-70 miles off shore. I hope I’m around when they are trying to excavate those areas

Great point and share. Forgot about that. Maine, Montana, and WA State. Sociology and History are my specialties, but am a Geo fan

Makes me curious what might be found by digging beyond the glacial strata.

Was anyone aware of the Snowshoe Tracks in Milo? The tracks were cut into the exposed ledge of Sargeant Hill.

Maine is such a beautiful area, but I couldn't manage the winters, I'm a Sissy and I don't mind admitting that, lol. But sure would like a Fall Vacation in Maine, Vermont, and always love to visit Boston, Massachusetts, (Huge Keith Lockhart fan). NE USA has abundant delights. Best Thoughts ... Tennessee Chicago born, GO CUBS - GO!!!!!!!!! 🧢⚾🐾 PS: On a more serious point, the dats findings in a variety of states represent a far earlier habitation than generally taught. Texas has an active vast site that dates back between 15,000, and 20,000 BCE. See the "Gault Site" (University of Texas and private funding)

Finding a site that was continually occupied for so many centuries was like finding the proverbial needle in a haystack! Evidence of First Nations settlement in this area that goes so far back is important.

No, they do humanity a great service. The media doesn't report on accounts of actual grave robbing that happens.
