Back then 50k could buy 2 really nice cars. Or depending on area going towards a house. Only owing 50k more for a nice house. My first house was in 2005. 110k in Tennessee. Payment was 400/month 2300sqft 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 2 story, 2 car garage, huge yard. Great condition. My husband bought our house in 2015 for 230k. 5 bedroom, 3 full bath, 2 story, 2 car garage, 3800sqft, upper middle class subdivision. Just 5 years later prices tripled. Couldn't afford it now. Glad we got it then. Our house is worth 600k from house prices rising so dramatically. Its ridiculous. House payment is 1300/month with insurance. Would be 4000 now. Would love to sell for the equity but would turn around and spend every dime to get an equal house. I have no idea how people are surviving. I feel for.my child when she gets older. Things might go down but housing will never go back down where it was. Rent for a 2 bedroom apartment is 2500 here in TN. Yes I know other areas are much worse but it all equals out in areas. Pay here is low. Pay other areas are high. Equal out with take home pay.
