Man....I cried when I watched this.....I was 20 when he won at Bathurst in 1993....I went out that year and bought myself a white VP Commodore......He is a true Australian Race Car Legend as good as Peter Brock and others Larry Perkins was my Hero and always will be.......Even when I looked at his race suit with the Holden Logo and the Holden V8 motor sounds it reminds me again what we lost here in this country with Vehicle Manufacturing something that is easy to give up but even harder to take back.....Thanks for sharing this Im looking forward to the next episode.

I worked for Larry & Peter Brock in NZ for the Nissan 500 in Wellington & Auckland in 1991. I was so impressed I set a goal to buy a Perkins car. So in 2012 I bought Chassis 042 & still have it. Good on you for buying a VP.

The ultimate professional at work. From the looks of it, he was bringing himself and the car up to temp, not getting sucked in by Lowndes & co going past, and checking the alignment for himself. Exactly as I expected from a guy who is one of Australian motorsport’s greatest engineers. That was an absolute pleasure to watch. How was he feeling when he got out of the car, Jack?

🇭🇲PERKINS BY A COUNTRY MILE !!! Hi Jack, thanks to you and your Dad Larry, what I just watched was something that I hold very fondly in my memory bank of how good these cars of that golden 5 litre / V8 supercars time period really were, I remember it all, I went to every single Bathurst in those days, and watching that 93 car and Larry do that this year is just GOLD, it seriously doesn't get any better than that, its just so good, so thanks to you both for keeping those old memories well and truly alive, incredible to see is all I can say, and the only difference now is I got showered in the day back in 93 with the victory champagne, well done Jack and Larry, WOW 👍👍👍

So great seeing the 3 icons finally reunited 30 years on, LP, 93 VP and Bathurst. Really love Larry's downshift technique and always found it set him apart when you heard onboards of him throughout the 90s. Not going to lie, definitely got goose bumps hearing the 304 go all the way to 7500 for the first time. Thanks for the fantastic content and keeping us up to date Jack! @Squalled
@Squalled 10 ай бұрын
@ianhillier4341 the 7500 rpm rule came in for the 1992 season due to rising costs of the unrestricted 1991 spec engines blowing up regularly. The 1991 Sandown 500 is a perfect example of it.

Absolutely love this era of cars and back the good old days. I wish Australia still made Australian made cars its part of our history. The Holdens and Fords I went to Bathurst in 1986 with my parents and some of there employees. It was our first time going to Bathurst we had an absolute ball. Stayed on the hill. It's something I will never forget. Watching Larry made it feel like it was only yesterday.

To be sitting in Mcphillamy park on both Saturday and Sunday wearing my old worn out Perkins/Ingall hat and my new 93 winning T-shirt and watching LP tear over the mountain was just absolutely awesome!!! The old fella was getting faster on Sunday and the final lap slowing down to wave to the crowd was fantastic. How fricken good was that! I can't believe the harshness of the Hollinger H6S dogs when LP was changing down the gears. How was the overtaking down conrod of CL in the Betta Electrical BA, the speed difference was phenomenal. Awesome job on the restoration by you Jack, Neil Burns on the engine and of course Larry and the team back at Perkins engineering. A+

@@erlinglarsen From the very beginning in 1948, Holden went all out to build great little engines. Always economical, never excessive in any way, affordable to buy & easy to look after. Where Holden's engines really shone was their inherant strength & durability. You could easily modify them, get up to double the original performance & still get fair economy & reliability. We've raced 'em since the very beginning & they've always been successful. The Holden V8 arrived in 1969 & they were comparatively light & compact. They were always the most suitable V8 for Aust right hand drive cars because the right bank sat ahead of the left bank to permit clearance around steering components & other gear that had to be positioned on the driver's side. I could never replace a Holden V8 with a Chev. Larry loved his Holden V8s & stayed with them when all the big money teams including the Ford teams switched to imported engines in 1993. They all thought they had a better product & they were confident when they lined up at Bathurst against Larry's old Holden. Well, wouldn't ya know? Larry's old Holden got up & beat them all! All things considered, the Holden V8 was at least as good as any other V8. This was proven time & again at Bathurst. No 350 Camaro ever won at Bathurst against Holden 308s. They tried for years & always failed. 351 Falcons were heavy & they had to push hard to stay with 308 powered Holdens. They won occasionally, but the Holden scored more wins. Thousands of them are still on our roads & a few of them still run in Historic categories. I have one in my old LandCruiser & it gets identical economy on LPG to my similar Diesel LandCruiser. But the Toyota diesel won't rev. The Holden revs & it's a whole lot more fun to drive. I have another one in my WB ute & it's as smooth as silk. They're just a great little engine. It's tragic they don't build them anymore. When you add up the costs associated with repairing 4 cylinder engines, it works out cheaper to drive a Holden V8 & use a bit extra fuel over an extended period. We really were spoilt. A Holden V8 is a joy to own.

@@johnbrooks9523 I've had a couple of 308 commodores wish I still had them . I'm on the hunt for a reasonably priced VH commodore with a 308 at the moment I want one before the prices get too ridiculous as they're on there way to ridiculous prices already.

I loved the whole series jack. My son Greg made the special trip to Bathurst this year, especially to see the car and meet you and Larry. I am a retired castrol rep and was working from 93 to 2020 so Greg grew up in a castrol house😁. He hasn’t got home yet but I hope he was able to catch up, he certainly got some pics anyway. . Great memories for me, I remember having a bbq lunch with Larry at our old office in Brooklyn. Happy days. pS loved your retro super 2 car too jack 👍
