I am just now starting my design layout for my low V setup routes, etc. Any advice for code rules, i also read someone in the comment mention Cat6 wires getting hot and keeping them separated? I do know to keep the Cat6 at least 10" from reg elect wiring in center of studs. Also learned that you cannot cut in specific areas or cut sizes of floor joists to avoid problems. Good choice for orange for the POE runs. That is the color of conduit for high voltage cables in hybrid cars. It tells rescue crews to keep away from the sparky parts.

If you cut into an energized PoE cable, it too makes sparks.

worried at all about the security problems and hacks with the ubiquity systems? i know little to nothing about what went down with them but a few other smart home channels were pumping the brakes on them for a while. also 6 APs? how many sf are you covering lol? steel walls? :) I'm a computer scientist too building my own house and doing my cat6 pulls now. our debate is whether to run POE to every window header for motorized shades

Honestly I hadn’t heard about any of the security issues. So far I’ve been happy with the gear. The APs are overkill but I wanted max 5GHz coverage. If you think you might want the cable, run it. I already have things I wish I ran. Run conduit from your rack to main parts of the attic too. Wish I did that. Thanks for watching.

@@Ciband yeah, I have condit going to attic for future solar and another for starlink or HD antenna. Also have a conduit to outside for EV charger. Of course ran conduits from tvs to the media cabinets. House we live in now I remodeled and had all the walls open. I pulled cat6 and coax everywhere... 8 years later and I ended up not using any of it really except one run for some gaming pre-kids. Despite that, I still can't help future proofing

Would you recommend making each C6 as a homerun as you have or would you do a split and what are the benefits +/- for using a spliter in some cases?

If you are talking about cat6, I would always home run everything. The only expect would be if you really wanted to put a second rack in the house to split things up. If that is the case then I would run some LC fiber between them so you have options for a good backbone.

i am not a fan of your wiring for cat6 with bundling. I would prefered to see done up like generic electrical outlets and wiring, with staples every so far, and proper hangers or staples holding the wire. if you are talking to drop down in the room where main switch is going ya ok, but all the other runs not so much. some issues with bundling like that could be.... cross talk between cables, heat build up within each cat6 wire and not being able to cool down, if you ever need to replace a run for what ever reason, another is getting the cat6 cables in middle of 2x4's vertical to help protect against nails / screws in feature, to other, another more important for me is bloody freaking mice, i have seen were mice, they make a nest in tight stuff such as bundles, now if it was generic 120v electrical wires that gennerally 2 nm / romex cables stabled at most most of the time in a home ok, the romex insulation holding (black,white,ground, with possible red), just is ok. due to the romex sleeve insulation is protecting them all. but for cat6 cable not so much, when you have so many cable runs in a large bundle that is not put in some sort of conduit / sleeve / cable mangment thing. next would be the "cheap outlet boxes" used for the end points in rooms. i would like to see generic 120v outlet boxes in walls, vs the cheaper low voltage face boxes you used. 1st is bugs and mice and like. but other is more so, is air will be sucked in/out more easily through the face boxes you used into the walls. in a older home you can tell difference were R45 jack for cat6 is vs 120 outlet or switch, one has dirt fumes on the wall, while other outlet face plate still same color as well. while this may all be fine, but you are more likely to pickup what someone is saying on other side of wall due to air alone passing along sound, through the face boxes you are using.

Most any server closet I’ve seen has the incoming lines bundled with hook and loop in that manner. I am really not worried about heat on data lines. A case could be made for the PoE and I will certain check that as I bring cameras online, but I still wouldn’t think it would be an issue. A reasonable think for the boxes but with spray foam exterior insulation, I don’t think there would be much difference. For interior hollow walls, maybe. So far I haven’t had any issues. Who is your internet provider? How are you getting internet service. Without coax ? Was anything run from the road or poles to a service point on your building? I ask because Comcast won’t do a service drop to my house. Trying to figure out how to get internet.

Our internet provider is through our local power company co-op. They run aerial fiber along the power poles so I have 1Gb fiber coming into my house. It is underground from the last pole on my property to my house. If your local wired providers won’t serve you then I would look at Starlink or 5G cellular. Thanks for watching.
