Today’s voyage took us from our anchorage at Rose Island, back along the east side of New Providence Island, across the yellow bank, and over to Allen’s Cay. Our travels were just 34.4 nautical miles, and we ran at an average speed of 7.4 knots. We departed at 7:00 am, arriving into Allens just before lunch.
We fed the iguana’s, we snorkelled, we fished, we swam, we explored with our dinghy… so many things to see and do on Allan’s Cay!!
Our second voyage was just 2.3 nautical miles and took just over a half hour to move from our anchorage on the west side of Allens, through the cut and across to the top side of Highbourne Cay. This is a tricky passage and one that should be done with good light and navigated slowly and carefully.
Highbourne Cay Marina is worth a visit should the weather force you to seek shelter. While we did not take a slip at Highbourne, we did dinghy in and visited the fish cleaning station (always a bit of a spectacle) as well as visiting the local parrot LouAnne. Make sure you stop in to say hi to LouAnne if you are there to get fuel, water or have a slip!
While Heather had never been to Highbourne Cay, Cam had fished down here with friends 35 years ago, and it was fantastic to find that a local he had fished with was still on the island! It was neat to see Joel again!
