I'm the kind of person that if I like a TV show or a film I can and will watch it over and over again even after I can recite every line in it word for word and still game is a good example because I only discovered it couple of years ago and I'll still quite happily watch every episode of every series back to back and never skip a single episode this is pure quality superbly written and acted out of sight by a superb cast absolutely hilarious brilliant brilliant show

Not always the case mate as I am presuming you're single for the main reason being is that nowadays it is more equal that both the man and women dating these days normally share the expenses on a night out. This is modern romance and not old fashioned chauvinism like your idea of romance.

Warning: long, boring Comment to follow, which contains SPOILERS. For any US folk watching this in disbelief, wondering why it all turned out so badly, (again) don't forget that Rule 1 of writing a decent situation comedy is that at the end of every episode, you have to go back to where you started. If you begin in the gutter, you need to end in the gutter. That's as old as drama itself. Still Game is a classic Greek tragedy replete with character flaws, pride, hubris, pathos, bathos, and catastrophe. Remember when Winston beat the obnoxious bookie and won a fortune? He HAD to lose it or the programme would have died. It's the same with poor Pete. Sad, but essential. "But that makes them losers!" you cry. "Why make such negative stuff? Have you no sense of pride or self-respect?" Nope. That's why we like Steptoe & Son and Blackadder and the guys in Bottom. A lot of British sitcoms deal with squalor, misery, tragedy and failure. We're not in love with those things, but we're not afraid to examine dark themes and laugh at them. And at ourselves. We're not threatened by notions of negativity. It's only a TV show, after all. Oh, we know Britain's a bit shite, but so is every country on Earth. Not ALL of Britain's crap, though, so what's the problem? We're adequate; that's enough. No need to bang on and on about how wonderful we think we are. Compare 'Still Game' with 'Friends' or 'Cheers' or 'Seinfeld'. The last three are trying way too hard. I think USA peeps (and sitcom makers) are superstitious. They're afraid that if they talk about something bad or laugh at real misfortune, they're tempting fate and might make it happen, so their lives are crammed full of positive messages. To an outsider, absurdly so. It's all a bit sad, really. Brits don't give a toss. Watch an episode of 'Rab C Nesbitt' to see how much of a toss we don't give. In the US - where they're deeply concerned about TV ratings and morality and positive perky messages and white teeth and cheerleaders and success and winning and wholesome family values - programme producers actually organise focus groups of ordinary viewers and ask them what they want to see. And the viewers, raised on a diet of flag-waving positivity utterly devoid of irony and with a neurotic fear of appearing less than great, demand happy endings and marriages and success and wishes coming true. The result? Mork weds Mindy. I Dream of Jeannie becomes a nightmare. Once the situation dissolves, the comedy dies, and the programme is killed stone dead. It's always a disaster! If Still Game was American, Winston would have been allowed to keep his money and Pete would have been awarded $1,000,000. They'd buy nice houses for all their friends and an amazing new medical discovery would let Winston have a foot transplant and then he'd find God and pay for a new roof for the local church ("Thank you, Jaayzuss!") and open a community centre for the underprivileged, and maybe start a business selling Pete's pies and become successful and buy a car and find a wife and move to New York and - And it wouldn't be in the least bit funny. And what would the next episode be like? Pish! With nobody to pick on, Jack and Victor would throw themselves in the canal and Isa would hang herself. No, it's never a good idea to give people what they want; the trick is to always leave them WANTING. :-)

Don't leave us Scotland. In this island we all have the same sense of humour. Don't think this translates to Eurospeak so well.😥

Especially when you consider that Pete was already 9 months sober. I don't think anyone enjoyed seeing the relapse.

I didn't like it, found it really hard to watch. My second time viewing it. I watched it when it first aired and was not impressed wanted to give it a second chance, it was bad. I normally think this show is hilarious and crease myself, but its normally grounded in reality and that is what makes it so funny to me, this was just nonsense, sorry but its utter pish. The secondary story line was okay, but over all it left me feeling depressed.

Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment?" kzbin.info/www/bejne/hoCyZZ-oicifhLs
