You guys nailed it. Hard Case Crime really went off the rails. It seems they’re more concerned with publishing prestige books now. Joyce Carol Oates, Brian De Palma, and Stephen King’s non crime stuff. Not to mention odd entries like The Secret Lives of Married Women, A Bloody Business, and Soho Sins.

I got one of the Michael Crichton reprints from them. It was...OK, you could see some of the ideas that would eventually come up in Westworld and Jurassic Park, but the story itself didn't really go anywhere. You could tell he was a young writer trying to get a foothold.
