Coming along now looking good, It's all getting exciting now, 355 almost on its way. You are going to love the 355 stroker. Doing a grate job on the body work, but don't skip the stages. This is what I do. 40 80 180 shaping it finding lows etc keep repeating these steps, then when I think its good I hit with two or three coats of high build and block the hole car by hand 180, now is when i start using guide coat and block it with 320. 320 you are still shaping it (to a small degree) but most importantly blocking it with 320 will show you how good or bad your panels are,(your not going to fix areas with 320, you will need to go back a step) so once you can block the hole car with 320 and find no problems, the job is done. There will be no wavy bits or lows. Then when it comes time to paint, I'll buzz the hole car with 500 using a interface pad (500 on an orbital sander will give you the same finish as blocking with 600). and I use 3m super fine hand pads to finish of all the edges etc. Unless your painting candy's or DNA special paints etc. 600 is plenty unless your paint recommends 800 but I doubt it. You can go the extra mile and wet sand it with 800. But I would not go to 1000. To many guys wet sand with 600 with a small block and end up blocking waves into there job! P.S. I only write this to help or confirm with what you are doing. Can't wait to see it in colour, awesome job.

Ha thanks Mark I was waiting for your essay 🤣 don't worry that's a good thing, I've stuck to your advise and I'm in a good spot because of it. So Thankyou. I wanted to avoid dust from here on in so hence the wet sand but I might just cover the new paint again and run a 320 which I did intend to do but just by hand. I was then going to do 500 then 800 wet. But could just got to 500, I have been using guide coat to reveal the scratches as I go with 240 grit. That helped heaps and now it's just very fine scratches left. Cheers

The back came up nicely. The WBs were body colour in the back, mine has had that brown/black fleck stuff put in it though. You can always tell a real Ute driver by the way he treats the back of his Ute and how he treats his tonneau cover. Mine always has a couple of wool packs and some cardboard in there to protect the back. It will take years for the tonneau to rub the paint off, mine has nearly 300,000 on it and it is hardly rubbed, but be careful when tying it down, finger nails are sharp. The Holden rope system is by far the best, I have had all types. The clip on ones are a pain in the bum and look terrible in my opinion. You can’t get them on when it is cold. The clips along the top are just wrong (excepting behind the window though). Looking good. Jeff

Thanks mate, yes I did know they were same colour as body out of factory but I figured it would just scratch over time so just wanted to protect it and use it if I need. Cheers

Looking fantastic mate. The under side would be better than when it was new, by a long way. It's going to be very rewarding when that colour goes on. Getting closer.

That raptor liner turned out great man, the only thing I can fault you on is you could have put that tape line like 5 mm down from the edge to give you an easier edge for taping up for your base coat. Also you want your clear coat to overlap tour basecoat by a few mm. You don't want your base and clear to just stop at the same place otherwise you can end up with a big hard line. Maybe mask the raptor with a soft edge tape line. A soft edge is when you fold the tape edge over itself to create one edge of the tape not stick and it creates a softer edge instead of a hard line. (refer to gunman videos on making a soft edge piece of tape, easy as) Hope this makes sense. There is a technique to doing it. I've been doing it for years and years. What are you going with the fire wall and engine bay. Black fire wall? Doing a great job man, if you have any old panels practice doing your base and clear. 🇭🇲👍
@BarnesysBuilds2 жыл бұрын
Cheers mate, yeah I did think about that after I saw the line. I did do a soft edge tape actually which worked really well but yeah I didn't think about course finish of the raptor causing issues with the basecoat tape line. I guess there are going to be mistakes, part of learning on the job, but hopefully it will feather in a little using the soft edge technique. Cheers mate🤙

Sweet as bro... Going great guns! Bloody Rad support panels are shocking. Guess they weren't thinking about how long they're going to last. I've had 4 lately for 2 Holdens , all of em stuffed.
@BarnesysBuilds2 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate, Yeah i was holding out on that Rad support until last hoping i would come up with a solution but not to be, should'nt be a hard fix, just a pricey repair panel!
