I was touched by i story sika Sis Dudu. What is sad is noting that mental illness is not understood in the African Community. We laugh at others to mask our own pain , because as a people ( a collective we are traumatised) Kudos to you for this platform that highlights real stories affecting real people. Themba you highlighted something important that back ground and family foundation is very Important. If the foundation is wrong, a child will grow up disfunctional. Through out the interview I was watching her mannerisms. She laughs at inappropiate moments, either subconsciously to mask embarrsment or deep hurt. Everytime she touches on a sad part of the story she looks away and stares far. Almost dissociation with the "person" that went through the pain. She was forced to be independent at at early age to fend for herself. Sis Dudu has serious Mother ( Naturing and Grooming) Father wounds ( Authourity , Structure, Protection) abondonement issues and deep trauma. She chose u " Ntwana" because she wanted never knew what love from a man looks like ( Primarily her Father ) so she looked for what her understanding of a Father was through u "Ntwana" ( danger element and sounds like a protector) Unfortunately she met with a Sociapath and Narcissist ( very charming and deceptive ). She convinced herself that she chose better that her mom who died at the hands of a Psycopath . Many are shocked at why people go back to their abusers. Trauma can do that. There is Cognative Dissonance at play. She nows what he is doing to her is wrong. She will excuse his behavior until she faces herself and heals. She will then be empowered to leave her tormentor. The phrase commonly used " we attract who we are" has been misunderstood. I believe we attract people according to who we are internally and our wounds. She needs proper therapy. She needs to heal in the inner child , that is where is she is stuck. Even spiritually if we where to go there. She needs proper deliverance.

Any relationship that requires you to sacrifice yourself to the point of losing material things or your mental health is toxic. 3.
