I wonder if it has any difference from frequency sum

Why does a weighted mean even exist if it comes out to be the same as a normal mean. It seems redundant and more complicated
@alexis.kiyoko2 жыл бұрын
yes I dont get it. Whats the difference? Why are we using it?
@amandayang4583 Жыл бұрын
@@alexis.kiyoko The significance of weight differs in the equation, for example, figure"18" plays a crucial role in this dataset as it takes up "4", and vice versa, figure"15" plays a meaningless role as it only takes up"1". It represents more clear than arithmetic mean.

Hi there, i'd like to know where is the rest of this course?!! cuz it seems there is more, so it would be awesome if you could upload the rest of this course, Thanks.

Why not use a different sample set so the weighted result is different?

It seems like a weighted mean will always give the same answer as a population/sample mean over the same data set. The weighted mean seems to be just a logical grouping by sameness that doesn't actually change the outcome. For instance. 2+4+8+6+2+2+6+9 = 3(2)+1(4)+2(6)+1(8)+1(9) the sum of the weights 3 +1+2+1+1 = n (the number of data points) So why calculate things differently.

life42theuniverse With this method you can choose to provide more "weight" to one or more numbers in your sample. An arithmetic mean is simply adding the numbers together and dividing the total number of figures present in the data set.

So is the "weight" assigned arbitrarily? Or is it based on frequency of data like in the video and my comment? If arbitrary or by certain rules perhaps you could do a video about choosing weights?

life42theuniverse I found a real world example ... www.docbrown.info/page04/4_73calcs01ram.htm ... That is how to calculate relative mass of an element using all its isotopes.

Not at all...but this video conveys exactly what you are sayin...The weight is way different than frequency...I can't explain in text...but must suggest to watch an another video on it!
