No matter how you cut it the MOS Technology 6502 is an important chip. The chip was cheap, simple, and plentiful. This made it perfect for the home computing boom of the late 1970s. But how was this classic created? Today we are looking at Motorola's earliest attempts to seize the microprocessor market, how economic factors impact history, and how trends and forces can conspire to create better technology. Great video. I'm an avid 6502 programmer. It was surely the golden age of computing

When you were explaining, what a "register" is in a cpu, i remembered the way i conceptualized it for myself as a high level software developer that wanted to understand low level cpu hardware: They are like variables. But you have a fixed amount of "pre-made" "variables" and you can not define any additional ones. And each "pre-made" "variable" may have it's own limitations and capabilities where that "variable" could be used. That made it quite clear to me, who had always worked in high-level programming languages. :)

Love this video! I did my first programming on the Intel 8085, so close to the same period.

The first CPU I learnt assembly on. Though technically it'd be the tms1100, but that was only a 4bit mC. Learnt Z80 a bit later and x86. 6502 was and still is so pleasant and easy to write for.

I use the 65816 uP in place of a 6502 with my 6502 based projects, WDC’s W65C816S can run 6502 code & run in an enhanced “16 bit 6502” native mode, the 65816 is an enhanced 6502 & has an 8 bit bus, not a true 16 bit uP much like the MC68000 referred as a 32 bit uP even though it has a 16 bit data bus. The W65C816S is STILL manufactured by WDC in the same 40 pin DIP package as the 6502, 65C02 though the pin compatible 65802 is no longer available.
