My thoughts on this: the norm is important and necessary, but it is an error to believe that the norm is the only thing necessary, and everything outside the norm must be eradicated. When we look around, slight variations of the norm are an important part of the harmonious world. The variations are a bit like seasoning - they can't and shouldn't replace the norm, but nonetheless they too are important and needed.
