This is very timely because I'm running a public one-shot in October that has a goblin clan camping out in an abandoned tomb! I was needing to build tents!!

Nice (not sure if it will be of any use - but late this month/early next, I'm also hoping to get a small mausoleum done :) )

An Adventurers' campsite! Woot! 🥳 I'm assigning the larger tent to the Wizard. He needs more space. 🧙‍♂ Fan-freaking-tastic! 🍻

These will fit in very nicely with a few of the encounters I'm sketching out for my players. A rack to stretch out pelts or string meats from might be a nice addition.

The only thing I can think of is you might want to have some drying or tanning wracks. I'm thinking drying fish or animal skins being cured. Possibly a texture for a yurt or similar nomadic tribal dwelling. However these tents mean I bring roadside encounters or small camp encounters to the table, thank you.

another excellent post. One thing I specially like is that you reference which other episodes the extras (crates, animal skin, campfire) come from.

The one you can see at the end of this video was made from the 'flames' and 'wood' from episode 72: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y4vSin6Ibb2He7M

Those tents look great. Have you ever gone through the entire design process before deciding that a project "just isnt right"? I'm curious if you had a box of failed/scrapped builds.
@CrookedStaffTerrain
@CrookedStaffTerrain 11 ай бұрын
Not really. I'll usually make prototypes first (just with plain paper, card, or whatever) and see if I can get the shape I want. And very occasionally they don't work out - so I don't take it any further (or I'll come back to it at a later date if I think I've solved the problem). However, I do have a little draw of unfinished stuff (i.e. prototypes that have mostly worked, but I haven't done any textures for them yet - but that's another story 😅 ).

What printer do you recommend to make this terrain? Also, do you use a high-quality paper, so that it can hold up to all of that crumpling? Thank you so much for your videos! This has changed the way I have decided to make terrain.

I just use a cheap inkjet printer... I talk a bit more about it here (and how I refill the cartridges to keep the costs down): kzbin.info/www/bejne/Zmmtm4ymitmcnKcsi=0undz8HWrSt3Cglw&t=144 Personally, I prefer inkjets over laser printers - because the ink from an inkjet will sort of soak into the paper - whereas that of a laser printer kinda sits on the surface (so, when you 'crumple' a laser printout - it can crack... revealing the paper beneath). And, as far as paper goes - for things like these tents I'm also using cheap office paper (as that seems to make the crumpling easier TBH). I only use thicker/better quality paper for the dungeon tiles/walls (and that's really only because the thicker paper helps to prevent the corrugation 'lines' of the cardboard showing through). Hope that helps!

The 1mm thick stuff is sometimes called chipboard (in the US I think), and/or greyboard (here in the UK). It's a similar kind of thing that you can sometimes find on the back of a notepad.
