I Helecal knitting all the time to use up my leftover sock yarn. Such fun. I do slip the three stitches before I change yarn. But I always make my heel flap with one of the yarns I am using and make sure the last change is the on the top and not in the heel flap. Then I just make the change when I do my first row across and continue on. So much fun. You never know what you are going to get especially when you are using self striping.

Hi Carrie. I'm new to your podcast and am really enjoying it. I'm not a knitter although I am a prolific crocheter. I watch several knitting podcasts just because I like the podcaster. Thought I would say I'm currently listening to "The Women" and really enjoying it. You kinda can't go wrong with Kristin Hannah. And narrated by Julia Whelan. Win win. The book is gritty and graphic at times. But it's worth it. 😊

I use a blood knot for my scrappy projects, never fails! To hide it, I do a yarn over with the knot and then knit together next row to hide it on the back of work.

Blood knot???
@janlizKnit59689 ай бұрын
@@marysnyder3809 its a type of knot for fishing, but works with yarn too. Lol If you search blood knot on Google there are images and instructions.

Helical knitting is Magic! I’ve made several hats (my own design, pre-Musselburgh) Helically, using scraps. For socks I leave one of the colors to the right of the flap. Then it’s in place for gusset pick up etc. I do use the “slip 3 (or 2)” trick, but only on the instep, away from the decreases. When those “transfer” places occur, I knit/slip a bunch of sts back to instep area until decs are complete. Then it doesn’t matter, just fly along to the toe. Your new bags prints are Adorable! I’ve been wanting your bags for ages. Trying to decide which size … sock, medium or large … Then, Florals or Kitties…Love the handy ring!! Thanks for tip/s on “magic” knot, made me nervous, never tried.

Hi Carrie, I'm so sorry about Ellie going over the Rainbow Bridge. 💔 You've been in my thoughts and heart. The Helical knitting on your socks is beautiful! When I do a Magic Knot ball, I add just a wee drop of Fray Check on the knots. I think it helps!❤

I love your Musselburgh hats. What is the finished length of your scrappy hats? I have made several but I have used fingering yarns so far. I would like to make one with DK weight yarn. ❤
@stolenminutes9 ай бұрын
Thanks! I knit mine to the length it specified in the pattern. When measuring, because it can be a bit subjective depending on if it’s stretching or not, I err on it being longer than specified rather than shorter because I know I want to turn up the brim.

The magic knot is excellent when you pull the two ends, but it can capsize if you move the knitted or crocheted piece in other directions. I don't risk it

Hi Carrie, So sorry to hear about Ellie. It's so hard to lose a cherished furbaby. I love how your fields sweater is working up. The colours are so perfectly festive. I have just cast on 2 new projects this week; the first a Musselburgh hat using cascade fingering weight yarn in black (I do not know what I was thinking!!) and the second, the Folklore Cardigan. I'm challenging myself with the cables. I love the cat pattern project bags... Do you ship to the UK? I have a birthday coming up so I'm wondering if I should drop hints to my family? 😂🧶🪡
@stolenminutes9 ай бұрын
A black hat will be worth the effort. Cables look harder than they are! And, yes, I do ship to the UK.😻

As much as I like the magic knot, I don't quite trust it. I always put just a dab of fabric glue on each knot after it is knitted into the project. I know how you feel with losing your cat. We also had a cat with us for nearly 16 years. My oldest kids grew up with her. She was an all black cat and she is missed.

Dumb question…. What is scrappy yarn? I’m new to this craft. Just love your hats
@stolenminutes9 ай бұрын
It’s leftover bits, but no set amount, just what’s left after finishing, from other projects. For me that’s usually socks so my scrappy projects are all sock/fingering weight yarns. So for the hats I tied together a whole skein of different lengths of these leftovers and held 2 strands together to knit.
@phyllisburke41419 ай бұрын
I find the superwash yarns don’t hold up to the magic knot.
@AKknit9 ай бұрын
I agree. I think you need a yarn that felts for it to work.
