Great video, I worked in the fitted furniture business 40 years ago manufacturing for bespoke bedroom and kitchens, if we had any small nicks or dents during the production process we used to spit on the mark and use a clothes iron to bring out the dent, saved our bosses a lot of money! 👍💨💨💨

Terry theartist Thanks for sharing your story. To be honest I was a bit dubious about this when I started. But it works! It seems to me that pipe restorers can learn a lot from furniture makers. We all work with finely finished wood after all. If you have any other handy tips to share let me know.

I will do the same with dings and dents in long gun wood stocks. it works great.

it works also on the edge of the rim! i'm just doing it on a old pipe that i'm recovering! thanks for showing the basic theory!!

At Walmart you can buy a small iron....You might be able to get a small steam iron.

What if you used a iron that also had a steam setting or even just a clothes steamer?

Hi there! So glad I found your channel. This is a wonderful technique that I will try on a few pipe restoration projects soon to be launched. If I understand you correctly you don't have to remove wax coating and stain to steam out the dents? How about a stummel that's varnished? Any advice on how to remove pipe varnish when necessary? Excellent techniques and very well explained. I'm from a rifle stock background, but the methodology is very similar - a dent is a compression of the wood fibres (and briar is still wood), while a scratch is the (unwanted) removal of material. I will try this on my pipes! Thank you from England
