Makes me proud of my Malkavian (who was also my first character) Alcander the Mad Monk of Mount Athos. He was once a Greek Philosopher turned into a Vampire by his mentor/lover Adonis the Wise Spartan. His backstory is stupidly long (being ancient as all hell) going from Philsopher to Seer to Slave to Male prostitute eventually becoming an Eastern Orthodox Monk after converting to Christianity. Going into torpor after he was wounded after the fall of Constantinople. Only to reawaken to modern day when the Moon told him to cross the Ocean to the City of Angels. When meeting the group his introduction was "I... I hear the stars they scream at me to help you"

I think an interesting portrayal of clans like Brujah and Gangrel is super difficult. Nines is a very entertaining Brujah to me. He may be a rebel; but he is wise and doesn’t rush to cause bloodshed unnecessarily. He feels like if he was the stereotype, he’s learnt it’s ups and downs and when raging *actually* has use to him, and when to play his cards.

Brujah are just really poorly portrayed most of the time. They are philosopher-kings, their thing is upholding and clinging to ideologies, whatever they may be. Considering the "personal horror" genre of the game, It's probably referring to the act of replacing basic human traits with artificial and shallow pretenses so you can hide how dead/repulsive you are inside. The whole leftist angle is just really easy antagonization of ventrue/camarilla for "main" conflict. (That's one of many reasons why Anarch vs Camarilla sucks, Sabbat vs Camarilla was much better.)

In all seriousness, my favorite clan will always be Toreador, their hidden darkness and tragicness when you actually look at how they can manifest, especially the rough life they have to live, most of them having Sire troubles to the point where they are neglected or abused depending on what their sire considers "Beautiful" - I love the clan because on the surface they are seen as stereotypical but when you actually dwell into what Toreadors you'll find how "Beautiful" and how obsessed, tragic and evil they can become especially as they get older is really sad. Makes them very versatile. A few examples: Nelli G and Chaz Price, Qadir, and his backstory were really sad. My opinion.

Brujah can be played better if they focused less on anarchistic rage and instead focused on being the “ideologically philosophical or philosophically ideological” vampires like the old Brujah (not the timey whimy ones which may or may not exist.) Nines seems to fit this well.

My favorite character I ever portrayed as a storyteller was a Toreador. She loved to create art of other kindred. She did this by adopting orphan Caitiff and then turning them into whatever she wanted. She then travled around with her circus. She was a blast to play.

The Tzimisce are placed 7th for squandered potential? How painfully accurate that feels to the lore. Maybe in an edition from now, we’ll see them return with some sort of focus on the old ways. If the Sabaat are mostly whisked away, the old clan can finally step out of the shadows a bit more. Kupala's curse influence on the clan is still present in the Tzimisce weakness, perhaps something new could happen with Koldunism as a whole. You would think that the movement of many of them the Anarchs would have received some amount of fanfare. Valdarie is now a tool the anarchs have to free bound ghouls and fledgelings. The anarchs that are most likely to be caught by technology, now can have their faces and identities changed. Mortals can be impersonated and replaced. This feels like an important development.

I agree with you that Gangrel can often be played in a very stereoptypical way, but I have played a City Gangrel, who was a corporate raider, who saw himself as the apex predator evolved to suit the new world. He was tremendous fun, especially in a Sabbat game where I was corporate raiding Venture corporations to destablise their wealth in the city. Really good fun to play mainly because of an awesome ST.

I have exactly one friend who I have managed to infect with my Vampire the Masquerade obsession, and while he started out liking the idea of the Brujah because of the punk ethos and direct action mindset he really fell out of love with them after realizing both that Vampire is a game where trying to play a "good person" in any clan can create an interesting, punk narrative and Brujah has way too much weird baggage (looking at you archetypes from Clanbook: Brujah). Now he really likes Gangrel because *druid vibes*, but after I showed him your Abyss Mysticism he has been super interested in the Shady Bunch.

I agree with your point about the Tzimisce even though I don't agree with its ranking. It is one of the reasons why one of my Tzimisce (the much older one) is an excellent guest & host. In fact that was the one I was talking from about inviting your Nosferatu or even Baron Temple as a guest for a discussion (referring back to one of your previous videos). They are endlessly polite & from a certain point of view caring. As I wanted to play against what seemed to be the obvious type. Because if everyone is being a flesh-crafting monster being neither is a good source of fun.

My favorite clans are Tzimisce and Salubri (i know theyre a bloodline technically, but theyre still a clan in my heart) as they let me get weirdly philosophical about the Canite condition, and i like how both of them have the idea of pursuing a higher state of being baked into their core concept, with the Salubri seeking transcendence by embracing humanity, and the Tzimisce by rejecting it. Its a fun dichotomy, and yet both are united by hating the Tremere 😌

The second I read the Lasombra lore and powers, I just had to make one. I made her a member of a family of Hunters, who pissed off the wrong Sabbat Lasombra one too many times and so he turned my character into a Lasombra shovelhead, for them to find her ravenous and bloodstarved. Now she has gained control and is hunted by her family who believe her to be an abomination.

About your problem with the Tzimisce: I recently started my first Campagne as a storyteller. Nothing special, 1450 in Transivania, the Coterie has to bring the MacGuffin from A to B. But point B is the castle of a koldunic Tzimisce. The plan is to put the journey in the limelight and let the players feel the harsh side of the land. For example they will have to make a blood sacrifice to the spirits of the land to get over a mountain pass. And I want to give the Tzimisce a high level in the Transylvanian Kraina and Animalism. The reason being that he wants to knows everything that's going on in his land using animals gouhls and river spirits and so on. Feel free to give me some constructive feedback ^^ And yes, the companion for V5 was....meh :/

About the Brujah: I really want to like them. Their problem in my opinion isn't that thet have this whole rebellion thing, it's that it is their identity while it should reasonably be something many young kindred have close to their heart. I do like the Brujah philosopher part with the presence to lead their movement, but their other disciplines speak to the "punch this asshole" approach which is just dull. All too often, Brujah are pretty much depicted as thugs.

My first foray into vtm was with playing a malkavian in Bloodlines. I have a soft spot for those touched by madness due to the consequences of knowing the future or forbidden knowledge. It is disheartening to know that Malkavian gets a bad name due to how people play them as LOLrandom. Thankfully, I was clued into avoiding the fishmalk stereotype, so I need to learn how to play a malkavian before ever approaching the table.

I do love Gangrel but I take many of your points. I think a major problem with them is a bit like the Ranger class in D&D. They encourage you to be outsiders or edgy loners outside the group living in the park earthmelding before sunrise and only talking to your stray dog famulus. While my top 3 is very hard to detirmine, I like Lasombre, and while your assessment of me as a person may be true, hey... Btw my personal top 3 are Ravnos, Lasombre, and Gangrel, depending on what I want to play. I like Ravnos and Gangrel for their urge to avoid cities, and hone certain disciplines to a fine edge over demonstrating a wide variety of powers. I also appreciate that Gangrel have a non-zero chance to be diplomatic with werewolves. It's still a bad chance, but 1% is better than 0%.

the clan Tzimisce would be better imo if the old clan and new clan were set up as a split between discipline with the old clan seeing vicissitude as the practice of soul-eaters and the new clan seeing koldonic sorcery as infernalism in service of a faustian pact with Kupala, with the statements of the old clan as pathetically pathologizing the anarch revolt. V5 really want them to be 'Clan Dracula' was really off-putting and really has made v5 a 'camarilla only' affair for me, particularly after the Sabbat were nixed as playable in the recent sourcebook.

I can understand your views on the brujah theyve always been a bit of a marmite clan even though I love them, though I cant say I agree with the ventrue one. Entitled to your opinion ofc but I think there is a lot more to them than that. A ventrue done right is like playing the vampire version of a Kingsman, theyve got a lot of depth to them thats missing from their main counterpart clan lasombra. I love both clan lasombra and ventrue theyre easily two of my favorites, but usually if people want to play a lasombra they quite often just want to play a ventrue without having to abide by the rules the ventrue force on themselves such as dignitas and noblesse oblige, both are interesting, but imo lasombra is easier to play than a ventrue.

Ventrue probably my second favourite clan. They’re for people who know the manipulation stat is probably the most powerful. You see other characters as chess pieces on the board for you to move. If you have to roll dice yourself at any point your probably doing something wrong. It’s all about building your power and insulating yourself from the consequences of your lackeys (I mean coteries) actions.

@@adamsboringvids tbh to some degree that still sounds very lasombra (especially the whole thing of moving your coterie and everyone around like chess pieces that's a very lasombra statement). Ventrue to me is all about leadership of course, but also about doing it right, you have your napoleon ventrue (your lacroix's) who often let their personal ambitions conflict with their leadership, but those ventrue have forgotten what every member of the clan of kings sees, the why in why they put up with brujah trying to make them crack or why they believe in the chain of command and the camarilla, the bigger picture. The ventrue see the big picture like no other clan does, they dont see the individual they see the group, no matter what sect that is, cam, anarch and even sabbat they the big picture and they calculate the best way to get there. They arent bothered if people think theyre wrong or if theyre cold and detached, they are taking very careful steps to advance their goal and do it right while keeping in their clans ways and doing it right, because the clan of kings doesnt settle for less than what they promise, and they are kindred of their word, which is a rare thing, because as much as any kindred can be honest, they are certainly that.

My top 3 is almost completely opposite to yours Gangrel (I love shapeshifters), Lasombra (agree with you on this one, they are more interesting Ventrue) and Malkavian (they are really interesting to me, the madness network, the weirdness of Dementation, how they range from the most tragic clan to fish-malk, straight up a cool clan with literally infinite possibilities) I dislike the Tremere solely based on their mechanics, I hate how obesenly broken Thaumaturgy is when compared to every other discipline and I'm talking v20 where you had like 40 to choose from.

I must respectfully disagree with your judgement of the Brujah. But you do state that it gets stale from your experience, and that is fair. I would argue that they are probably the most versatile clan in the game. Fitting very well into the Camarilla, as the brutish bodyguards and bouncers, as not all Brujah have the anarchist view that people like to give them. On that note, however, they are seen as the founders of the Anarchs. And finally, the Brujah Antitribu, often viewed as the founding clan of the Sabbat, are the ruthless, chaos loving brutes you describe in your experience. The Cammy and Anarch Brujah do not love chaos. They embrace the natural chaos of the world around them and use that embrace to their advantage. Especially the Anarchs, who use that chaos to fight the perceived tyranny that is often accepted by most Cammy clans, and even encouraged by the more posh clans such as the Toreador and Ventrue. The fact that the Brujah are commonly viewed as the founders of both the primary non-Cammy sects comes from their tendency toward rebellion, as well their typical tactical and strategic skills. I mean, these are the most necessary skills in any army. And I understand you saying you can't relate... You do, frankly, sound like a more proper gentleman, yourself. But in the dark realities of both the real world and the World of Darkness, it is actually the crass brutes that hold true value in the world. Without them, the posh couldn't sit in their pretty ivory towers.

Cis in this context means that I assign myself as the gender I was born with, which is male. Some choose to be refer to as male but maybe born as female.

My least favorite is Toreador, I just can't stand them - and they are the only one, I can't stand. Favorite are Malkavian, Tzimisce, Ravnos and Gangrel. Nosferatu I like too. And it gives me no small pleasure, that you rated them so much above the Torries.

I find the Brujah and the Torries to be the most.... TIRING to speak to... The Gang? Well they let their beast have a little too much sway, but they are a lot more "real" for me.. Ventrue... Keep confusing money and blood, so maybe they are TOO human.. But they do get things started... I've always perfered the Tremere, the Giovanni, Lasombra or (oddly) the Tzimisce.

Every clan has something special to offer. Some are a bit too stereotypical at times, sadly, but that is more up to the players who play it too. Others requires more work and that usually leads to much more well defined paths the vampires/players take. You did sadly not mention the best, the Baa... what why is everybody looking at me. Right then, lets just say every clan can be played very well, if played very well. If done badly, it is badly.
