This is my assessment of the differences between these two legendary microphones...take it with a grain of salt.

Thanks for this one! Great information here for those of us still figuring out our home setups.

Just found your video. I already have the U87 Ai, M149 and SM7B. I think I may be missing the flavor of the 416, but there are a couple of things that are keeping me from the purchase. 1. The sibilance. I found it to be so pronounced on the "S" and the "F" sounds. 2. I'm not sure if I could get a similar sound from any of my condensers by using the right EQ setting. This is something that I have to explore a little bit more, but I got a feeling it is possible. With that said, I really like that "in your face" sound of the Sennheiser and many people say it doesn't need a lot of post processing. It is still on my radar. Thanks for your review.

Really really good video, I hope you continue to do more videos like this: honest and down to earth. My home studio is pretty quiet but in the summer months there can be much more ambient noise. I think it would drive me nuts using something like the TLM then if I have to keep stopping because of Louis neighbour parties or lawn mowing.

The 103 is nice. It has a nice big low end. Not the greatest top end, but whatever. Not everything can be a C12. But the 416 is a vastly more interesting mic and can cut through a dense music bed without even breaking a sweat.

Hi, Great video! Does your booth have double walls and up on rubber casters or is it single walled and on your floor? Thanks.

You can't soundproof a room with foam and blankets, to soundproof you need mass like concrete walls or bricks, 2 walls with space in between works best.

@@TheBlanketfortStudio I have both of these mics on my wish list but the purchase would be a long time in the future. Right now I have a Rode NT1 and a Stellar X2. I used an MXL 990 for demos for many years before I bought the NT1. My house is being remodeled now but when that is finished I will set aside an area for a vocal booth. Air conditioner noise and trucks are a problem for me too. Plus I'm in the landing pattern for the executive airport.

I hope you have a basement. I'm thinking about moving all of my stuff down there, but it's already finished so I'm trying to figure out where exactly to put it.

@@RichardChristopher No basement. Here in South Florida it's coral rock four inches below the top soil in my yard. My den area in the back of the house is the furthest from the A/C and the street. I'll carve out some space there.

You can get them for closer to $1300 US at Amazon, GuitarCenter, and most of the big box music stores.

@@TheBlanketfortStudio After exchange shipping and other border fees I'd be up to the same price.
