Oh man, I'm in love. I've already resurfaced my old veneer bathroom countertops. However, I thought I would be stuck with my kitchen tile countertops because I can not afford to have them redone with granite. After finding Mike and StoneCoat, I'm going to work on covering my tile. I'm so excited. I may be 67 yrs. old, but I think I can handle this. Thank you so much for renewing my hope of getting rid of the old tile and grout!!

Oh thank you so much! I just purchased a home that has the original kitchen from 1987 - with those tile countertops you can't roll out dough on and just are such a pain to clean. This is a good option to replacing the countertops right now and buys me time if I want to do a bigger update later down the road. You've really done a good job with the step-by-step instructions that even I can follow.

Thank you for posting this video - it really convinced me that this kind of operation was possible in the first place. However, after some research and experimentation I have modified and in my humble opinion improved your approach. The two main concerns I had with it was that 1) prep took two days for both concrete treatments to set 2) achieving smooth, level surface involved a lot of manual corrections. My approach was the following: 1) paint the tiles with multi-purpose bonding primer by Custom 2) wait an hour 3) fill the grout groves on the edges with a fast setting concrete product such as SpeedFinish or Bondo 4) wait 2-3 hours for it to set 5) since the surface of the tiles are surrounded by the raised edge and the wall we can pour self-levelling concrete over it to achieve a smooth level surface with little to no effort - I used LevelQuick RS mixed with water according to manufacturers instructions 6) let it dry overnight This procedure achieves smooth, level surface twice as fast (1 day instead of 2) than the original. It only works for tiles with a raised edge, but it's something worth considering!

Around 25:30 you said it looked like a concrete counter top.. Is it possible to stop there and seal it to get the look of concrete countertops without all the work? It absolutely looks like a legit concrete countertop. That would save a whole lot of hassle if you could stop at that point. I'm curious to see how you do the bull nose and how the epoxy looks afterwards. I have the same type of countertops in my kitchen and I would love to do this because we don't have that much counter space. We figure if it gets messed up we can just replace it because it's not that much square footage. Do you do training or anything like that so people can represent your company and other states and do installations? I love this type of work. Same method. As long as you make sure you get a good bond, you have nothing to worry about. When I apply new tiles to an already existing tile layer, I use a bonding agent, just like in this video, which dries out sticky/rubber-like and mortar sticks to it so epoxy will as well.

@soul13805 жыл бұрын
Yes. I hesitate to purchase the product until they show how to do it.
@suburbanhobbyist27525 жыл бұрын
Simple, you can't. They aren't answering because there is no solution to that problem. The only thing you can do is replace your back splash with something that will match well with whatever color you choose for your epoxy finish. You will have to remove the old tile back splash and replace with new tile or some other surface material.
@andrewmarkert11465 жыл бұрын
@@suburbanhobbyist2752 Yes you can do the back splashes. You perform the same steps.
@suburbanhobbyist27525 жыл бұрын
@@andrewmarkert1146 You can do the backsplash if you do it while it is horizontal and then install it vertically but try and get the same results if you do it with the backsplashes in place. Do those steps on a vertical surface and your epoxy is going to flow right off that surface or at the very least it's going to gather and be much thicker at the bottom of the backsplash. The best you can do is put a light coat on multiple times but it won't look the same as the counter top.
