Epoxy free keychain tutorial using Crystalac (Brite Tone)

Today I will be doing a tutorial on epoxy free acrylic key chains. I will be using Crystalac (Brite Tone) to get my smooth glass like surface. Crystalac is a water based product that is safe to use anywhere you are.

cann you make keychains using the brite tone ? like how you would with normal epoxy ?

yvonne torres You mean with a mold? No because you can only do thin layers at a time.

Hi I’m wanting to switch from epoxy to brote tone. I had an allergic reaction to epoxy and would like to try this out but it seem a bit confusing what I actually need to buy to start. What all can be done with this. Any help is appreciated.

Hi, so the min product you need is Brite tone, everything else isn’t absolutely necessary but does help. You can use it on just about anything that needs sealed. You cannot use it in molds. It’s simple to use, just apply a thin layer and walk away.

Do you spray with the enamel gloss right after you apply the waterslide decal?

Christine Mele No I don’t. I seal the waterslide with it before it goes on the keychain. You need to let it gas off for 24-48hrs after sealing before you apply Brite Tone.

Rubi Vee you should be able to just do that but be sure to take the product over the edge so it clogs to the popsocket and not just the sticker

What is the rationale behind sanding after the first 2 coats of BT?

It’s actually after 3. You sand every 3rd layer to help get that smooth surface.

How do u get all the bubbles to go away in brite tone? I’m mixing mica powder and wow bubbles everywhere and I can’t get them to go away :(

I’ve never gotten bubbles but they do happen if your layers are too thick. If you use a brush they can be caused by brushing back and forth vs going in one direction or by wiping the brush against the side of the container to get excess off. If your layer does appear to have bubbles you can lightly sand it down once it has dried and apply another layer.

Do you print an entire sheet of waterslide and then seal the entire sheet or do you print what you need, cut it out, and then seal?

PuraVida Treasures I cut my sheets into 4”x6” , I get 3 out of a full sheet. Then I seal the whole 4”x6” after printing

Dorothy Wade-Bonner You can use permanent vinyl and not put anything over that if you’d like. I like my keychain to feel completely smooth so I put the Brite tone over to seal. Now if you mean seal with a clear coat before adding bt, then no you don’t. Though I would advise you seal printable vinyl with a clear coat(gas off 24-48hrs) to keep the colors from running. Hope this makes sense.

Which Mod Podge do you use?

Rhiannon Bruce I just use the one with an orange label, I think it’s just gloss, but any should work

I think you wouldn’t normally do just one. She probably does a bunch at a time to make her worth her time?
