Ok that is just sick. I am not sure I would even put that one in the boat. I have one question about adding the marbling and epoxy. How much weight does that add to the rod?
@fdxcustomrods Жыл бұрын
Thanks Scott. A few grams but with it being on both sides of the reel seat it shouldn't be noticeable.

Great marveling Lee. As I've marbled about 7 rods I canagree with you on the entire theme. There is no wrong way to do it and rods can't be duplicated. They are all different and look Individually great.

They are not everyone's cup of tea, but I really like the individual looks of each one.

This style of marveling has one purpose, to catch fisherman. I doubt a single fish has jumped on a hook because they liked the look of a rod, but I may be wrong! Great job Captain Lee.

That is exactly who it is designed to catch!🤣🤣

Very nice.. but will it dry uneven?
@fdxcustomrods2 ай бұрын
Not usually. If it is a little uneven, you can put a coat of clear on it, do a light sanding, and then the final clear.

I'm about ready to Marble a rod...havent done one in 5 yrs. I used this video as a refresher course.i have one question. What are your thoughts on using testor model airplane paint instead of the pigment powder to tint the pre-mixed epoxy. Thanks.
@fdxcustomrods10 ай бұрын
I've used it, and it works fine. Just limited in color options.

I have a question regarding the marble finish. Does it add much weight to the rod? Very new to this and thinking of adding some custom to my present rods. If I asked a repeat question I apologize.
@fdxcustomrods11 ай бұрын
Thanks for the question, Tom. It obviously adds some weight to it, but the amount is negligible. Since most factory rods are tip heavy anyway, if you marble below the reel seat, the apparent weight may actually feel lighter.

Thank you a lot for this vide. I have watched several others on marbling and you have all of them beat, hands down. I have marbled a few rods, but was not satisfied with the results. Others liked them, but I didn't. Maybe that was my OCD kicking in. I learned a lot from you today. Just one question, what is the stuff you added to thicken the epoxy to make it stringy?
@fdxcustomrods Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching David. I use a product called Marbling Mud. You can get it here.. voodoorods.com/products/voodoo-marbling-mud

@@fdxcustomrods Appreciate the info! I just left their site. Spent a small fortune 🙂. Got another question. I like to repurpose rods. Currently I've begun changing a Wright McGill casting rod to a spinning rod. My hang up is that after stripping the guides I found the blank covered by the guides is not yellow. would you use a yellow (as close as possible the right color) and apply that to the spots that won't be covered by the spinning guides?
@fdxcustomrods Жыл бұрын
Sorry David, I didn't see this question until now. The answer is yes.

Where can I get the marbling mud. And is that what it’s actually called?

Cap…you said with that one white and black side of the rod it got too high and you were going to sand it down. Question(s) are you wet sanding it? If not what grit are you using ? Thanks for the tutorials. I’ve only done a handful of fishing rods and any help is greatly appreciated.
@fdxcustomrods Жыл бұрын
I used a sanding screen and 120 grit dry. Don't worry about the scratches. The next coat of clear fills them in and they completely disappear
