The day I comment this, it has been exactly 30 years since the Epping-Ongar shuttle closed.

went here yesterday and had a ride on the steam train they currently have running there and also a couple of the old routemaster buses. it's incredible how much history the railway has and surrounding area in general. Absolutely loved the experience and will definitely go back there in the future.

I'm one of the member of the Epping Ongar Railway volunteer society, we are currently restore this railway to it's original era, like GER and LNER. And we are going to reintroduce steam trains to our EOR!

very sad that LUL closed such a charming rural branch of the central line, no more will the shoes arc through coopersale and the sound of the compressors and chime whistle echo through the rustic scene, i bet the local pikeys nicked all the negative and postive traction bonds though! very nice film!

a few weeks ago I was at Epping tube station, what the terminus of the central line is, but the tracks went on, which I found quite remarkable. Now I understand, thanks for that! Good music bytheway! 5*

Funny how this line closed the year I was born! I'm glad the line's being restored to its original condition. It's really a railway I'd really like to visit, for the history of the line and of course the Class 117 and their recently received Thumper!

No, always been single track from Epping, the only double bit is North Weald station that was removed, then put back.

@bronzeonion Not so sure, but the railway had once purchased these stocks, but apparently they were cut up for scrap after being destroyed by the vandals!

Its amazing to think at where the EOR is now running steam trains along from ongar through to EPPING. Not a lie. You cannot alight at epping but the train travels to around 700 meters short of epping station platform. COME AND VISIT US. WE ARE OPEN EVERY DAY THROUGH OUT THE OLYMPICS AND EVERY WEEKEND AND BANK HOLIDAY'S. ENJOY

I presume the current was permanently switched off after closure??! ... otherwise that guy walking on the track at 5:30 onwards (for a bit) was dicing with death. Surely they switched the current off, as it would have cost LU a lot of money to keep it on for no reason! Great film, but my god it's certainly dated. 1994 seems like a different age, and world.

They even had tube train. stationed at onger. yes after it had closed

@mu301nh I would assume the main reason is the expense of running and also maintaining the electric rails. I can see the health and safety aspect but then tourists also use the underground. To me the diesels and diesel electrics just aren't the same. I guess it is as usual all down to cost and lack of money which is why LT closed the line in the first place. Such a shame.

Why couldn't the line remain electric even if run by the Apping Ongar Railway Society and separate from LT? I guess it would be too expensive.

I used this line many times. But hardly anyone used the service, the natural progression of it should have been Chelmsford
