Epson FF-640 vs FF-680W vs Plustek Z300 Scanning Photos

TL;DW I wish a really good automatic photo scanner existed, these are not the worst, but far from perfect. (And no, I don't want to use a scanning service, simply because I want to do it myself! I'm not against buying a used Kodak Alaris like scanmyphotos uses but there's not enough information on which models would work and what controls I would have) All scans at 600dpi.

this is very comprehensive. I'm facing the same dilemma you are. wondering if you found a good solution. I have hundreds of photos to scan and I'd prefer the highest possible res but I don't have the time for flat bed
