I love my Epson LS12000B. Hope he eventually blacks out the room. That in itself will do wonders for contrast and the overall feel of the room.

I second this +1 George. That light ceiling and sides are basically reflecting light back onto the image and contributes to wash out.

Yes, before getting a new screen or anything I'd paint the room and ceiling in darker colors. It would be a huge upgrade, especially combined with such a high end projector. Maybe get new carpet too before investing in a bigger screen.

I have a RZ50 with an older Epson 5025 with a 120 inch screen. Eventually I will upgrade the projector, but it is still working just fine so I cannot quite justify upgrading the projector yet.

I still have a 2009 Epson Home Cinema 8100 LCD projector. It really needs an upgrade like this new Epson. My Paradigm speakers are still perfectly fine but I'm assuming this new Epson would be a massive upgrade for me. I have a black ceiling, dark purple walls and gold and purple curtains with dark carpet so even with my old equipment it's still rather impressive but obviously technology has moved on. 126" screen which I'm assuming the new laser projectors could effortlessly light up. I also have component video run from my receiver up through the ceiling and down to the projector, lol. In later years I added HDMI but the component cable is still there (and hooked up to a Toshiba HD-DVD player). And I'm still using digital optical to my Panasonic receiver (remember when the Panasonics with "digital amps" were all the rage; yeah still have one and IMO it still sounds so good).

I bought an Epson EH-TW9300 (5040UB?) as faulty last week. It had a slight line of "shadow" across the top of the image, but only on the Red and Blue parts of the image. So I knew it was likely an issue with the internal lenses, and hopefully not the LCD panels themselves. Sure enough, a whole family of similar Epson models have an issue where one of the compound lenses (after the lamp) tend to slip out of place. This is mainly when the projector is ceiling-mounted. Trying to keep the story short here, but basically, I fixed it. I took the cover off the light engine, carefully cleaned all of the mirrors and lenses with a proper kit. Removed the two compound lenses, cleaned, and re-seated them, and the shadows were gone. ;) I bought the low-profile ceiling mount kit. I can get at least the front two bolts into the ceiling joist, and bought some "molly bolts" for the back two. The projector weighs about 11.2 Kg (24.7 lbs), vs my old Optoma UHD550x (7.8Kg / 17.2 lbs), but I think it'll be fine. Anyway, I have to agree about the motorized lens shift on the Epson. I don't know if I could do without it now I've seen it in action. Obviously I haven't given the Epson a proper test yet, but I'm sure it will have much better black levels etc. than the Optoma. And most of all - NO rainbow effect! lol I was never overly bothered about the RBE on single-chip DLP projectors years ago, but now I find it super distracting, for some reason. 3-chip DLP projectors are still way too much money, tbh.

My projector screen was from Sapphire. My first ever acoustically-transparent screen, finally. I had random brands of speakers around the room for quite a few years... PSB Alpha P3 (or B&W dm303) for the front Left/Right, A Klipsch center speaker, sat on the radiator below the screen. lol, PSB LR Intro for the side surrounds, Monitor Audio Vector 10 for the four heights. I only just replaced the whole lot with RSL speakers, about 8 months ago. Speedwoofer 10S MKII sub, CG23M for the front LCR (mounted into the wall), CG3M for the side surrounds and four Heights. I had to add spacers to the screen brackets, as the LCRs stick out of the (plasterboard/drywall) by about 2 inches. lol I was using an Anthem MRX-720 with an external mini amp for two of the Heights. But I'll be replacing that very soon, with my DIY AVR, which has 11 channels of amps. Maybe one of these days, I'll get chance to actually enjoy watching some movies on it. lol

Something you will want to do is update the firmware to the latest version as it greatly improves the HDR handling (if you see auto bright listed in the menu it's been done) Something else you want to do is implement the settings projector reviews came up with. I tried all the suggestions on the avs forum and they all looked crap with the newer firmware IMO.
@electronash
@electronash 5 ай бұрын
@@stevenlawrence2232 Ahh, thanks. I'll definitely do the firmware, before bolting the PJ to the ceiling. The bolts should be arriving today. I only just found out about the LLDV thing, where you can simply spoof the EDID for Dolby Vision, and get fairly close to the same appearance. The source (eg. UHD player) then handles the tone mapping. It won't be as good as "proper" in-display Dolby Vision, but looks very good in the example clips I've seen. I can do the EDID spoof on the DIY AVR for now, or there are some £30 boxes like the ezcoo HDMI spliiter, which can be firmware patched. Thanks for the hint about the Epson firmware. ;)
@stevenlawrence2232
@stevenlawrence2232 5 ай бұрын
Yep I've got the ezcoo. I was going to mention it but didn't want to bombard you with too much info 😊.. I've found it good, but even using custom firmware specifically set up for the 5040 it still find it maybe mapping a bit dark in some instances. I know you can customise it to a specific nits level (I think the custom firmware is 330 ish). I'm projecting on 1.3 gain isf grade elite screen, lamp medium, 120" at 3.6m, lamp has done 2300 hours. I guess it's possible I just need a new lamp for nicer HDR or I could try a remap to say 150nits tone mapping and see how I go.

I love how you went about this upgrade!! 🎉 good quality updates without spending tons of $$! 🎉🎉 That said, knowing they prob won’t change speaker locations, why not go with something like a Sony receiver with their 360 surround or similar to get the most immersive experience possible? 2nd. With the $$ saved on the receiver and projector, maybe you could convince them to just upgrade the screen like you said and get as big as possible within the limits of the LR speakers (transparent for the center l? 🎉 Just a thought. But I def wanna say, what you did with the extension chord and hdmi was absolute genius!! Haha. We aren’t pro installers so this trick might not have been so obvious!! Nice job!!! 🎉

I wanted to give them an option to upgrade to Atmos in the future if they decide to go that route. Plus the TX-RZ50 had such a killer deal going on it was hard to pass up. I hope they upgrade their screen at some point in the future. Would be a major improvement. Thanks! I had to get kinda creative with the cable situation. Got lucky that it worked out!

Hi Recently bought Onkyo TX RZ50 receiver replacing my old Harman Kardon AVR 3600. I used chromecast hooked up projecting from 1080p projector BenQ HT 3050 an amazon prime movie. through the onkyo receiver I find that images are not as crisp as seen while using the Harman Kardon which are very crisp. I also find that sound through Onkyo Receiver diesn't dynamically adjust volume to maintain same volume over dialogues and background music loudness. any ide why images are not as crisp as what Onkyo should have dleivered? and why sounds are not balanced well between dialogues and background music ?

I don’t run any audio thru the projector. Connect your devices (Apple TV, blu ray player, streaming device etc) to the hdmi inputs on your RZ50. Then run an hdmi cable from the hdmi output on the RZ50 to the hdmi input on the projector.

I was thinking about going Epson ls 11000/12000 for the next projector but wasn't sure it was a worthwhile enough upgrade from the 6050 I already have, or if I should wait, and spend more to get more down the line like going with the NZ 800/900 bur you know like triple the epson....so this is a great video for me :)

Extension cord in ceiling is a code violation in most jurisdictions. Why did the integrator do this when an outlet was near the projector mount? I would plug new Epson into the outlet if it's working. My two cents worth...

We are looking at purchasing the LS11000 to go with our Onkyo tx-nr646 receiver, We do not have a screen though, can you recommend a 110 to 120 in screen for a room that has blackout curtains and very very little light bleed during the day, usually watch movies at night however. I can only spend $700 to 800 dollars . I have spent days researching screens and i cannot figure out the best quality for that budget, I really want to define contrast and color, I am used to watching the best sony tv's so that is my reference .if you could make a suggestion that would be so helpful. we could have bought the 98 in sony tv a couple of weeks ago for prime day but hubby wants a more theater sized screen. this video was very helpful, thank you
