I was an extremely healthy child; then at age 15 I had a major seizure (non-epileptic) while hiking in the desert in California. The seizures continued to grow in frequency, and by 21 I had a terrible disorder. The drugs put me in the hospital, so I elected to not take any of them. In 1992, I was diagnosed with Epstein-Barr; (pyelonephritis) was hospitalized with a 105.6 fever; almost leukemic, and was placed on IV drugs for 3 days. I never really did fully recover. It has been almost 25 years; life has been hard. Now, I have symptoms of lymphoma/MS. I have extreme dizziness; ringing in the ears; swollen lymph nodes; 5 thyroid nodules; hip erosion; nausea; hearing loss in left ear; loss of appetite; weight loss; black circles around my eyes; iron deficiency; paleness; wanting to "drop" in my legs, etc. In 1992, people were laughed at for EBV; they said, "it is all in your imagination." NOT. No one wants to be sick, and no one wants to pretend to be sick. It was cruel to even suggest that I was making it all up; but after being hospitalized I was "blown off" like I just wanted to be sick. I bought "Osler's Web": a book about the alarming statistics of EBV and how the CDC was confiscating the files from med clinics, etc, in an attempt to get to the bottom of it. Now, apparently, no one is laughing. That caused even more emotional stress for me; being "blown off" because no one could "see" my symptoms. The symptoms exacerbate the seizure disorder NOS, which I always have to be careful of. It is about time that this is taken seriously. Life has poor quality when one is compromised and has so many dreams, desires and ambitions. I pray for the people of today who are in a better medical environment; it has cost me my health because I grew tired of feeling like a "hypochondriac" every time I went to a doctor. I then just flat quit going; doctors cause me emotional stress because of the lack of true concern, and I always have to "pay" to be told, more-or-less to get "lost." Well, I have neglected my health because of the criticism and it is "all in your head" after almost dying from a kidney infection. Go figure! So, I am saying this to all of you who have been "blown off" by a really poor physician; it is being taken seriously now and it is most likely going to cost me my life because of the ignorant refusal to take EBV seriously, and I have another contributing factor to it all. Find a good doctor; they do exist, but you have to seek them out. Do your homework, and for God's sake, do not see a doctor in a small town! Your first tip; you are probably better in the medical field than they are!!
