Thanks so much for providing this video. My mom had / has one exactly like this in the Estate Sale. I did not know how it worked. I know nothing of music notes, only how to pump it and push on the keys. This is so much appreciated.

Ever since I bought my Estey Model Style S, Action 98, circa 1895 +/-10 afew months ago...I have enjoyed many reed organ videos and helpful tips/hints from Rodney and Craig (the Reed organ masters of the internet)...I play mine at least once a day...if only for afew minutes sometimes....Thanks for your well-done video....JRZ

Hello! I have seen you comment on most of the reed organ videos I've been finding on You Tube. I wanted to see if you could help me. I got my first reed organ and I think it needs a little love. I def need to clean it, but I mainly want to make sure the the bellows are working good etc. Is there a way we can communicate off you tube if this is something you are familiar with? THANKS!

I recently bought this exact model organ, Epworth and with the same 15 stops (had been removed from the case and bellows cut off! It was being parted out for craft projects, yikes!!). After cleaning the reeds I was really stunned by the tone quality - thanks for pointing out the technical aspects related to that. I had noticed the deep cells but didn’t know the purpose. Yes it’s great that the Celeste isn’t too sharp and so it’s more versatile. A good use of real estate. For the wet sound the aeolian harp on the left is enough for me. Funny that you mention that you could trust Methodist pastors; online at Antique Piano Shop you’ll find materials that show that the pastors got ten percent commission on these organs, and the text specifically says the info is “confidential and only for the pastors”. Haha!

+Musique3579 Hi Craig, glad you enjoyed it. I was looking in the ROS archives, and Seybold made a Pipe Tone model with 22 stops and what looks like six rows, including two different pipe-tone sets. That one would really be worth looking into.

+MasonHamlinOrgans Thank you Casey. I see them every now and then on Craigslist but the y are always overpriced with the claim "works perfectly fine." Sure, we all know what that means. The person was told by an "expert" that it is worth half a million and when they pump it it makes a noise.........hence "works perfectly fine!" LOL There appears to be one in the Portland Or. Craigslist right now for 25.00. To see it, you have to type in "Organ" and then scroll down about to the 5th row. Looks like it is missing the music rack unless the cover somehow doubles as one? Other than the 1875 Estey I recently got that I have made 3 videos of, just found a Burdett "Golden Voice" Cabinet Organ. The early all Brass reeds are my favorites of all. So, to a limited degree, looks as if I am at long last able to do some of this restoration once again. Good to see that you are still at it. There are so few of us left now that would know anything about restoration of these wonderful instruments. Craig

Hi Michael. Just listened to the Epworth Pipe Tone reed organ demo. I am really very impressed with the tonal quality of that organ. Well, probably it's because I can hear it well! I had some serious work done on my hearing aids yesterday. I can really hear the quality of the tone on this organ. I realize you were not playng it, but became interested anyway. XXXMom

Good to see and hear this interesting RO analysed. I'm glad that Williams used such contrasting voices for the two treble 8's; far too many makers voiced them identically. Nice instrument! Thanks.

*This model has some of the tones* I'd be after for a two-manual. My ideal stoplist would have Principal 8, Salicional 8, Octave 4, Dulciana 4, Quint 2-2/3, and Dulcet 2 duplicated for Upper and Lower, with an option for Contrabass 16 on Lower. In the case of an electrically-winded model, a 32-note Pedal with Contrabass 16, Major Bass 8, and Choral Bass 4 with Upper to Pedal and Lower to Pedal couplers would be useful.
