Several years ago, I was tasked with creating narrative tracks for training presentations at work. I watched this video and some of your basic Audacity tutorials. The simple tips of noise reduction, your filter curve, compression and normalization settings, have made my voice editing so easy, quick and effective. I've had numerous comments on the improvement of the narrations over previous trainings that were made, prior to my work. I don't think I ever thanked you, so I re-found this video and wanted to leave you some positive feedback. Thank you very much for your videos. They have been super helpful for my role in our training narrations.

just wanted to let you know, your explanation and method of EQ'ing making those adjustments from the bass boost and treble boost preset is spot on for the very reasons you gave. These guys that take a preset and think it is going to apply to their set up AND to everyone's set up is so misleading to new comers to audio editing. Thank you for setting the record straight. Hello, I watched your audacity tutorials on KZbin. They are amazing and professional. I have a question: how to remove (reduce) a soloist's breaths? I recorded it in the church to the accompaniment of the organ. I used 6 microphones !! Two pairs of them were of the "Y" type, one from the OLYYMPUS recorder and another pair from the ZOOM recorder. The next two are RODE, one before the soloist and the other general. I can handle audacity and manually remove too loud breath by using the "noise gate" function, but it is very arduous work. I am an amateur working on a complete album of this soloist (soprano) and I have several songs to record. It is a huge job, hence my question is how to do it with these excessive breaths. I would be very grateful for your help and thank you in advance. Greetings, Marek

Dominic Robinson Hey Dominic! I’d recommend trying to cut the lower frequencies by a dB or 2 around 150-200 hertz and a bass roll off at about 85 hertz. With music we don’t want to muddy up the track so cutting some bass helps. The light treble boost I do in this video should work with this also. Let me know if that helps!🤙

Sibilance, the correct term..(not syllabence) we get it, but should be pronounced correctly or, you'll have me saying it wrong? Lots of good tips. The factory settings are too extreme, and as suggested in the video, subtractive filter curve in the mids (wide band shelf) may sound better than boosting the extremes. I have always wondered why "tone shaping" is called equalization? There is nothing equal about making "eq" adjustment. I really like "filer curve" as the better term.

Does it matter what order you apply the filters? Or can you apply compressor first, and then adjust eq?

Yes, sometimes that works best. It can be situational 💪

Thanks for the great tutorials, however there is no such thing as Silibance, there is a word for excessive SSSS's and it is SIB -il- ance. Thank you for taking your time to explain all this info.

Great advice! Thanks a lot. Do note, though, that it's sibilance and not silibance, which is what you keep referring to it as.
