Hi Rahul, Thanks for the video. 3 points that came to mind: 1. For the Coffee can portfolio, the timeline is clear - 10 years. Any comparison for intermediate periods may give different results. But, the fundamentals of that strategy is, through the ups and downs, it will play out over a long period and generate the alpha. Previous year data (as demonstrated in Coffee Can portfolio book) suggest it is right for the last 10 years. 2. Your point of "entry point is critical" & "margin of safety" is key is a very good point in the medium term. Pulak Prasad's book "What i learnt about investing from Darwin" is a great read on this topic. 3. Interesting insights on the new scheme coming up. Nice attempt & well articulated. Looking forward to more Rahul. 🙂

Wonderful analysis Rahul ! i too got swayed away by the impressive talks and terminologies used by Saurabh and did buy some great co stocks only to see them going down hill in the last few years. Its true that most companies of their choice are great but there are no margin of safety hence made few losses.

In Saurabh's defense, he never tried to pull a fast one on anyone. He sold his philosophy which people bought including you. Having done that, it's unfair to blame him. No one forced you to shun conservatism. Please look inwards before pinning blame on anyone, it will help you become a responsible investor and a responsible person. Please don't take this as a criticism, it is meant to open your eyes to focus inwards than outwards. Apologies if you or any reader feels bad.

@@rajagopalram7783Tend to agree with your larger thesis of looking 'inward'. However in a trending market like the present one, even a 'conservative' approach would not have been a great strategy to adopt, as the stocks have been trending higher & higher for eternity, it might seem. For, one would definitely have developed a strong feeling of 'FOMO', to the extent, that he would start considering himself a dumbo or curse himself for adopting the 'conservative' strategy !

Rahul nailed it. Marcellus invested in good companies not in good stocks. They ignored valuation.

I used to buy the companies of Marcellus and Saurabh Mukherjea mentioned in their videos. I exited most of their companies before they exited and announced. I started investing companies with PAT CAGR above 20%, Roce and Roe 20% in last 10 years, current Sales value atleast 1000cr and above, Market capitalisation of 5000cr and above. I am getting good returns. Now I am not losing the sleep.

What exactly is 'margin of safety' ? Who is to decide, rather how does one decide, at what price a stock is safe & what price it is risky ? Barring the extremes, it is not so simple to decide or define the terms, 'safety' & 'risk'. The solution to this probably could be 'ultra conservatism'. However, the flip side to this could be, that one may have to be a patient fence sitter, who is ever looking for the right stock at a cheap/reasonable price & at the same time gives a pass, almost in perpetuity, to those stocks in which he doesn't see 'value'. This situation could lead to many a heart burn in the markets, such as the prevailing one.

@@jaideepkoppikar4790 The rhetorical question would be, would you buy good stocks @ *risky* valuation? Here again, how to decide, what is risky & what is safe ? No sensible investor would buy 'shady' stocks. However the point of discussion here is about 'risk' & 'safety' & not about buying into shady counters.
