No disrespect for a great tutorial. I have pulled utility trailers and travel trailers for many years. We just purchased a new travel trailer and the dealer tried to sell me this for around $800. If you don't pull more than your vehicle is rated for, and you have the correct tongue weight and not just I thought but the actual tongue weight, then as far as I am concerned this is not needed. If you are the type of person who has no clue how to safely pull and pass when towing a trailer and no clue as to why tongue weight matters, then you need this. I recently came across a person in a jeep with a rated tow of 3500, and they were towing an Air stream 6000 lb flying cloud!
@mr.monitor.Ай бұрын
You may not need it, but it is safer. I live in a windy area, and a 30+ camper is a sail in the wind. It's the sway control that you need. A distribution hitch can't make up for an incorrectly loaded trailer. A half to with stock tires definitely benefits from it, though.
@MouwDown20 сағат бұрын
It not a question of being within tow capacities of your pull vehicle. It's about keeping weight on your front axle. You change the camber of your front suspension significantly when you put all the weight behind your rear axle. Tires are expensive and I'd like them to wear as even as possible. Distribution hitch has the ability to achieve this.

I also had to buy a reducer and I’m very unhappy with it. It is the short one that you showed. Nope nope. These hitches will crack your A-Frame. Seen it a dozen times. Buying bolt-on airbags for your trucks rear suspension and stand alone sway control is a much better option. Think about the physics. Where do you think the weight gets distributed to? It goes to about an 18” section of the trailer A-Frame 2-3 feet back from the torque down brackets. My welder friend repairs them often. Every time they have a cracked A-frame, they have your setup.

Great install video. I used to use a hitch like that (husky), but let me say that the Anderson No Sway hitch has the equalizer (or any trunion bar setup) beat by 1000 times. No heavy bars to pick up and store, no complicated adjusting for different weights; just attach your base plate with chains and then crank the bolts tight. Takes 10 seconds to hook up and disconnect, and very easy to adjust for different tongue weights, you just crank the bolt tight one more thread.

Thx for clarifying vs Curt's instr. You mentioned measurements are "close enough if you have airbags". Do you adjust using your bags? Also, you stated starting truck ball 1" above highest coupler measurement but instructions state 1/8" per 100 lbs. Which do you suggest? Thx Dan

I have a equalizer hitch that the drop down receiver broke and equalizer would not cover it and even claimed it wasn't their hitch. I would not recommend their hitch for anything.

I've looked at all the auto stores, they all have shitty 4 inch adapters.... can you make one? I'll be happy to pay with shipping... thx
