Probably the sunlight/shadow casting under the jump causing hesitation. That looks like a big pit to a horse.

Icelandic ponies are a breed nobody really knows about. I liveried with an Icelandic pony on the yard. Tvistor he was named! He was pure black, massively thick mane and tail small head, short strong back and one of the smoothest to ride. He was imported to the 🇬🇧 from Iceland. He was broken in and ridden on for a couple years over in Iceland before he was sold and sent here. Tvistor never walked, as soon as you were mounted and ready to walk out the yard he'd just go into second gear immediately and that was a fast smooth extended trot. He wouldn't break into canter and always stopped dead when the aids were given, so it wasn't disobedience. I was told that's how they ride and trained to be in Iceland, walking was seen as being somewhat lazy and his owner was told this when she viewed him and rode him out. I don't know if that's really common practice or not? But horses and ponies are expected to use different gaits in other countries (Mongolia for example). The lady that bought him didn't like jumping much and asked me if I'd take him around the yards cross country fences (all different heights from 2'6" to 3'3). He loved jumping and was pulling into and looking for the next fence. Tvistør was brilliant and loved taking him cross country. He didn't like SJ fences though, but hey so what, CC was his thing! Thanks for actually reminding me of the Icelandic breed which brought back a forgotten memory of my fun riding Tvistør! 👍❤

@maddiexo I feel like, in my opinion, anyone under the age of 18 should be required to wear a helmet. After they turn 18 they’re an adult and it’s their choice, but I just feel like before that a parent should have anyone young wearing a helmet. Kids just do dumb, reckless things, so it’s always better to have some sort of protection for that tiny underdeveloped brain of theirs lol

@Equestrian Ponies for life I agree, everyone should wear helmets. Especially since it’s the people that don’t that you almost always see doing the stupid things. I just meant that people under the age of 18 should be required too. I mean, there’s a lot of barns that have that exact rule for a reason.. Yes, everyone should be wearing helmets. Will everyone wear helmets? No, but children at the very least need to be.

Yeah, assuming it was that one off jump, my guess would be She can't see the jump properly. The lighting is uneven, to say the least, on the actual jump and horses have trouble adjusting their eyes in different light.
@JustASleepySloth2 жыл бұрын
Yeah you're the problem "pushed her through it" means you forced her to do something she didnt' want to do, horses always have a reason. She could have been in pain or simply not wanted to jump that day, jumping to horses is a very forced unnatural process as they prefer to go around and don't even like to step over things unless there's some sort of benefit in the way of food etc short of the story is if your horse says no; just listen, sometimes there's more going on with your horse than you can see and what you want to do should never be priority, it should be that what your horse wants is priority.
@CowsforGalsOffical Жыл бұрын
