Equinor E-ROV Concept, SV version

The E-ROV system is a concept developed by Equinor in order to improve the environmental footprint, reduce cost, and increase the operational flexibility. It is a self-contained, battery-powered remotely operated vehicle system capable of operating for extended periods of time without being recovered to surface. The communication with onshore control room is linked through an integrated buoy equipped with a 4G transceiver.

Fantastic concept. Removing the surface vessel is a great money saver. I'm not convinced over the buoyancy module installation here but hopefully that is some animation simplification. I echo concerns over communication stability and subsequent contingency scenarios - but a great step forward.

Interesting concept, but I'm not sure that the speed of data transmittal is enough to work with 3-4 cameras, sonar, sensors & control. Moreover, the signal of 4G usually is not good offshore, so this method is very limited by communication. One more fantastic parameter is the volume of batteries, I don't believe in 5 weeks operational time for this system.
