Hey friend, thanks for making this video! As an (amateur) musician I have to say I love your music. Every time I listen I'm compelled to pick up an instrument and start jamming. I only have about a million questions about your music making process, from both a logistical and artistic perspective. For everyone's sake, I'll limit myself to three (ish) questions. 1) I find your Idealogue series particularly inspiring because it feels very improvisational and in-the-moment, but you execute everything so cleanly it also feels practiced at the same time. Is that actually the case? How long does it generally take to write/record one of these songs? To what extent are you actually improvising in your videos? 2) How long have you been making music? Do you have a theory background? 3) Obviously your setup is optimized for the type of music you're making (quick iterations, complex rhythm and harmony via looping). So I have sort of a chicken-and-egg question: which came first: the setup, or the musical style? Did you seek out an optimal setup to make a specific kind of music, or do you make the music you now make because of your setup? Thanks again. I sincerely hope this channel continues to blow up. You deserve it! - JC Jr.

@charlieemery77413 жыл бұрын
I've been trying to work this out. Do you have an answer??
@edoardomarin33823 жыл бұрын
@@charlieemery7741 Yes. All done via USB. If you do not need to get an O/P from your DAW directly to the speakers, then you can simply use the RC505 as an interface: then you only need to connect your speakers to the 505 O/P’s. If you want to use your PC or audio interface as main O/P for everything, then you must create a new Audio Device in Audio MIDI Setup (Mac), including your interface and the 505: this will create 2 virtual I/P and O/P for the 505 next to the interface’s ones. You name it and you select it as audio engine in the DAW. Then you map the O/P’s of the tracks and the master based on what you need (Interface or 505). Done :)

@@edoardomarin3382 Hey bud, genuinely curious myself how he's done this set up and been trying to figure out for the last half hour. Thing is, I don't think he's using the RC505 as an audio interface because the MIDI connections don't seem to be used. He only has one USB input coming into the laptop and the cabl;e for this goes round the laptop and under the desk. My guess is he's got that going into an audio interface, where the keyboard is plugged in via MIDI and has an output going to the RC505 (You can see the red and black jacks coming into the RC505).......This is the only way I can think he's done this looking at the cable set up and the ports on the back of the keyboard and the Loop pedal, please correct me if you think I'm wrong though! :)
@edoardomarin33823 жыл бұрын
@@jayricepillau Hey Mate! Yeah, surely that routing works too :) It really depends on what are your needs. Having the 505 connected to Logic (or Live) directly as a digital O/P (interface) allows (should) lower latency then a routing like: Keyboard - Midi - Interface - Logic - Audio (Interface) - I/P Boss-505. Mainly, I use it this way so I can record back the 505 into Ableton. But yeah, there are several options and the one you pointed out works well too!

So he’s recording into a totally different laptop? And he isn’t using logic to record?
@ZacharyMcClane4 жыл бұрын
Because he's using his MacBook for his live instruments, it would be a mess to record the output of the looper on the same laptop. That's why he has the output of the looper going into another computer and records from there.

Dear Mark. Thank you for this video, and all of your others of course. Sure people will copy you but that's how music evolves. Thank you again for sharing, I'll definitely give this a try when funds, family and time allow and hope one day to bop my face off to some killer loops. All the best buddy. Keep them coming please

Hey Marc, I love your content. I’m a loop artist myself and your a huge inspiration to me. I just bought the boss rc505 this week and am waiting for it to arrive in the mail. I have the boss rc-20xl and have used the boss rc-300 for 4 years. Looking forward to this upgrade. Can’t wait for your next Sunday love stream. I love Wayne Brady and Harry Mack as guests, I truly enjoyed myself the past 2 streams. Thanks for what you do!
