Trinity Dairy's official 100th video. People have been asking for a video with an equipment tour. We go over our machinery museum with the Case 660 combine, the Farmalls, the International tractors, the Case tractors, choppers, silo blowers, new idea corn picker, round balers, and much more. It might not be shiny, but it all works! We also answer viewers most frequently asked questions about the farm. Thank you to our viewers for helping our channel grow!

I've recently followed a variety of You Tube diaries. Yours is pretty much a spitting image to what my family does in North central Wisconsin. (Except we have no manure lagoon so in the winter we spread it every day) but feeding that silage still get a kick that we do that almost exactly the same way. One difference is we do milk our 45 cows with 4 surge buckets and carry milk in pails and use a strainer. That works ok for us. We talked about putting a pipeline in but the stall part of the barn is only 7ft. high. According to the fieldman, by the time the pipe gets to the milk house it would be like 5ft off the floor. As long as the creamery is still ok with the way we do it we will continue. I am kind of familiar with your area in that I went to college in River Falls WI. My youngest brother lives in Frederic, just straight across the border a stone's throw from you. It seems we have much in common, perhaps most small dairy farmers do. In honor of your 100th video I subscribed too. (I thought I did already and saw I didn't.... My bad) Best wishes on the next 100. Happy Holidays.

Your equipment tour was great, they get the job done, the best part is they are paid for, as you stated the economic horizon concerning farmers is hard to see now, the idea of accumulating debt is unfortunately the worry for many small farmers today, you make a wise decision to grow slowly, Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to you and your family, God bless you all

If people don't walk in your shoes and see through your eyes how can they be right and you be wrong? There's always another way to do something but you make a call as you see it. Quick question on high moisture corn. What is it and why don't you do it anymore? See a few Dairy Farmers on KZbin using it. Really enjoy watching you all and have a safe Merry Christmas 🎄
@trinitydairy
@trinitydairy 3 жыл бұрын
High moisture corn , is shelled or cob corn, harvested at a higher moisture, we did it with cob corn, which is also called snaplage or earlage, I tried to harvest it at around 50 percent moisture. We quit doing it because if the weather gets to warm, it's hard to keep it from molding, and if I don't have enough for a full year, and have to switch feed the cows drop in milk until they adjust. It does make nice feed, and the cows like it but it didn't work as well for us. Thanks for watching!

Congrats on your 100th! I'm not a farmer but your channel has struck a chord with me - I admire the work ethic that you have to have as farmers, all the machinery that's involved, and that your family seems like the "traditional all-American family". The content has been interesting to me, like the manure pipe saga, I loved Jordan and Justin's mini equipment tour, and the Carlton County Fair - Treasured Memories video was fantastic. I wish y'all a Merry Christmas and hope for a better 2021!

A nice pole shed would be nice. Little bedding pack like you said for the cows when weather isn’t so great and if big enough maybe sneak in some equipment in there also lol. A farmer wish list is always growing but you are correct you need to think about the future and if the infrastructure will remain there to keep the dairy going. I do enjoy the videos I too had cows till 2016 but still farm a little and mess with a few beef. Just the days of the small family farms seem to be going away.

Having dairy does restrict your time. Morning and evening 7 days a week for milking along with keeping up with the requirements for milk quality. I love fresh milk. It is an acquired taste. Nothing like that stuff in the grocery stores. If it came down to the bulk trucks stopping picking up the milk I wonder if it is worth it to separate the cream and sell that? Maybe even make butter? It is a niche market for sure. Nothing like fresh cream and butter for cooking/baking . The last tractor my dad bought was a 1066 Turbo. He loved it. Upgrade from a 4020. You have different conditions to farm in than we did in Lac qui Parle county. Farm life in Minnesota is tough. But, it is a great way to grow up. Builds "character". Haaa But, seriously it is a healthy way to live.

at 25:02..............you touched on a problem many areas that are not heavily into dairying are experiencing. Having farmed in the #1 dairy county in Minnesota ( Stearns) we have lost a lot of small dairy farms . However, whether one is opposed to larger dairy farms or not, having them in your area keeps milk trucks in your area, feed trucks, and veterinarians.

Haha. I have an old wood stove in my shop, but the junk keeps crowding it and I end up working outside again.

I think green chop is one of the many best feeds of dairy or beef cattle, if I start a cattle farm when I'm older, I will most likely do green chop for feed on my cattle farm. I love your videos and your equipment, keep those classic tractors and equipment rolling.
