Thank you for this video. I knew absolutely nothing about tracks but my take away is they're just like tires. The vehicle manufacturers don't make their own, and there's a whole range of price, quality, and specific thread design.

Stan like your statement running tracks in the snow wears the crap out of tracks not noted along with undercarriage. My preference is tire machines for snow but it’s all what the person likes and has 👍on switching out your tracks just dedicated for snow. On a side note my dad’s 87 he’s been chomping at the bit to cut his grass mine a one of our rental properties for weeks now.

During spring summer fall when the company I work for runs skid steers we are on asphalt easily 50% of the time. Small cramped work sites means we have a lot of materials that we store on curbside or we access from curbside. We can't always get a piece of equipment into a place so we'll also use it to fill wheelbarrows on hard surfaces Will Bill them off of a driveway or off the street. We also have heavy clay soils with a lot of Rock in it.

Taste it, touch it feel it. Because I want to do those things, I despise internet shopping. These days after you've found whatever it is you were looking for, buy an extra if you can afford it because good luck finding exactly the same one again. Not always possible to buy extra spares, usually most impossible to find it the moment you really need it. Love the work here.

@@Dirtmonkey You bet, burn them nasty C patterns up. If I were a straight asphalt operator, I would run C's all the time, but with variable jobsites, the Zigzags are just better. Check track tension. Ground pressure - narrow tracks put all of the weight of the unit on the track. So PSI pounds per square inch. Same for your shoes/boots. Walk in snow and you are up to to the hips or knees. With snow shoes you walk on top. PSI of the foot is the same but more square inches on the snow shoes keep you floating.

We’ve ran cheaper brand tracks before and have broke tracks in 300 or less hours. We’ve had OEM tracks last up to 1,200 hours. You definitely get what you pay for in the track world. Their are some things that the OEM tracks do that they do not offer in their more affordable tracks, like the length of the inner gauge plates that keep from derailment. For instance on our Takeuchi TL12R2’s, Bridgestone makes their OEM tracks. You can only buy that Bridgestone track from Takeuchi and any other Bridgestone track we put on those machines will not stay on the machine near as well once the tracks start getting hours on it. We’ve also compared the same tread pattern from different brands and found a big difference in traction, longevity and derailment. They may look the same but they are totally different. We put around 1,200 hours on a year on each machine and some get 600 hours on a set and some get 1,200 so we buy a bunch of tracks all the time. So much so that we can swap out a set in 30 minutes with one guy and a skid loader with pallet forks. Sure does get expensive so no we stick with what we have found works for us the best.
@Dirtmonkey

"So much so that we can swap out a set in 30 minutes with one guy and a skid loader with pallet forks." Once you get the hang of swapping tracks its almost fun. Alex did that one by himself in the loader in 10 minutes. he got lucky and it went smooth but thats an incredible feat by itself.

I am not a snow plow operator, or a landscaper. I just watch them on KZbin. QUESTION: When your all season tracks get worn down pushing snow, can they be retreaded like a truck tire? I mean if they are exclusively used on pavement, there shouldn't be any damage to the casing. Being in the trucking industry I know we save buckets of cash by using recapped tires VS virgin rubber on positions other than the steer tires. Wouldn't you see the same? AND if they aren't recapped, WHY??

i hate cucumbers but pickles r ok once you vulcanize rubber, it's molecular state changes and doesn't go back. that's why it doesn't blend as well. think of it like adding already cured, broken up concrete to cement mix. it can't cure together and won't bond correctly.

I have been running Camso tracks for a few years, used off shore tracks for a while thinking I was saving money. I think one very good point that wasn't touched on is driver count and it's relation to sprocket contact, sprocket wear, and ride quality, the cheaper tracks literally shook one of my mini ex's apart. I think it may be time to part with the bobcat and give a Kubota a try. I don't see any newer bobcats in your vids, is there a reason? Thank you for all the content.

I've worked at CAT dealer a Bobcat dealer and now Kubota. There really isn't anything wrong with Bobcat per say other than they are only like $10,000 - $12,000 cheaper than CAT and the CAT is a way better machine with much better factory support. Now the Kubota's are nice because they come in cheaper than the Bobcat but have the exact same engines as the CAT. All CAT compact equipment with the exception of like 2 machines use Kubota engines they are just painted yellow and re branded. One funny thing is that the Bosch injectors on the 2700 3 cylinder engines in the CAT 305 and Kubota KX040 are $300 each out the door from a CAT dealer and the dealer cost is $500 each at the Kubota dealer. Now that does bring me to the big downside to the DOOSAN engines in the Bobcat's from 2019 to I think like 2015. The injectors are $1,000 each out the door. Also the reason why they do not have a DPF is because the fuel system is made so precise it doesn't need one. But the problem is that unlike a lot of machines when you run bad fuel you ruin the entire fuel and that repair will cost around $10,000 to fix. On Kubota's it's usually just the injectors or the suction control valve. So usually less than $5,000. But realistically the best machine for you is the dealership closest to you that has the best service and parts department. What good is a $60,000 to $120,000 CTL or skid loader if the dealer can't fix it when it breaks down. That's another thing it doesn't matter what brand you buy when your using them they all break eventually.

Not sure about EU or US knockoffs, but I can tell you how China works. First hand knowledge. We send our patented designs over there to get the product made with cheap labor, little to no taxes etc. We order a run of lets say, 1000. They weasel extra materials etc for themselves, then after they run the 1000 for you. The continue production of YOUR product and give it some generic name and resell it cheaper. Sometimes, they will add one easy minor change. That's it. So they make billions by saving from R&D and tooling costs because YOU paid for the tooling.

Hey Stan, very good video. How's that Decked system holding up for you? Any issues with rain or snow? I look forward to your videos. I heard a rumour that there is only 8 more weeks of winter. I hope the next blizzard (tuesday or wednesday) isn't too hard on you, but if it wasn't for them, you'd be out of the snow business.
