Will I ever get tired of picking these aluminium body repinnable locks? NOPE! 😁🔐🔐🔐

I just filmed a pick of the same lock on my channel! I love them too!

The first time I've ever seen a lock removed from the package by picking it- hilarious! And a well-done picking too. Serrated and spools, differing springs, and anti-drill pins with ball-bearing locking. Pretty nice lock.

You sound happier than you have in a while. Glad to hear that joy in your voice again. Maybe I'm just happier and can hear it better. Regardless, another great video sir. I gotta get those Christina Palmar/Multipick tools.

I think it’s possibly some self reflection? I’m glad you are feeling happy though. On some of my upcoming videos you might hear me sound low and tired as I was I’ll for a couple of weeks a few weeks back and I film weeks ahead

I found some of these completely at random on eBay recently and they were under a tenner, so I've snapped up several and the first couple arrived an hour ago. Not tried picking one yet but as I can't yet pick my genuine AL1100 series or my Federal 90As, I'm expecting these to be out of my reach for now. They can sit in my to-be-continued pile. It was great to see you gut this as it gives me a clue about what mine may contain. I'm actually really pleased so far because it's hard to get real or clone ALs over here, and to find some this cheap with a decent build quality is a definite bonus. I bought a group of Sepox AL1100 clones from Amazon for similar reasons but those feel much less substantial. They're also all keyed alike despite being sold as LOTOs so, erm, ... My AL stash is being overrun by clones and AL homages now, and some are pretty competent. Federal 90A, Kasp 14040, Abus 72/40 and now these ERAs - all feel like proper locks from proper lock companies, all repinnable and all should be enough of a challenge to be educational for me.

They are ok! Check out Matlock padlocks for some cheap ‘federal’ fun
@penfold78002 жыл бұрын
I think you're right about federal. I have three of these and there are signs of good quality manufacture. What I particularly like is you can remove the shackle completely by just removing the retaining grub screw, without all the ball bearings falling out. So it's easy to change the core and easy to change the shackle. Only two keys included tho, not the usual 3. Must be cost cutting I guess.
@LockNoob2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it’s definitely a fair quality lock, whoever makes it!
@RAkers-tu1ey2 жыл бұрын
Looking at that key, I am thinking isn't that a city rake ? The core was a lot more complex than I expected. Good Job! That is a lot of security for an aluminum body. The 2 wrench trick blasts through those in seconds.

Well yeah, not super strong but fun for us pickers!
@SilktheAbsent12 жыл бұрын
That one isn't bypassable, due to the horizontal actuator. Nice to see countermilling and drill protection in the core, too. As always, great picking, Ash!

A very nice-looking lock, and excellent picking. Thanks Ash! 🙂👍 But how can an Aluminium bodied lock an really be 'High Security'? A drop of Gallium, or a junior hacksaw would render it useless. Nonetheless, they're challenging enough to keep honest people out, for personal safety, or for privacy reasons.
@bikkies2 жыл бұрын
I think the general use case for this sort of lock is for Lock Out Tag Out, so resistance to sustained physical attacks isn't really what they're going after (if that is correct). I believe they're more interested in numbers of potential differs. it's nice that it can serve as a LOTO but also hold its head up in public as a general purpose low-to-medium deterrent too. To me, this puts it above the ubiquitous Master Lock 410 red plastic bodied LOTO. i like those but they only really have that application. These AL1100 derivatives feel much more versatile to me. Being repinnable is the sweet icing on this cake.
@locknut53822 жыл бұрын
@@bikkies My thoughts are broadly similar. I like the locks, and would love to have a couple of genuine 1100's to try out. There's only a low quality clone in my collection.

I need a practice lock, recommendations? Or pick a lock any lock (just don't get caught). Yes i had to shelve picking because i need to get a practice lock to see the pins to feel them better. Plus am buggering off to bovington soon so cash may be, slim.

hi Lock Noob, I was watched your southord nps 2000k video, did you advice me that as a beginner kit? Cus I'm a beginner at lock picking
@alaneubanks2 жыл бұрын
My wife got me the set for Christmas this year as my first set. The only thing I don't like about it is the tension wrench is very thin. I talked to southord to see if they had thicker versions that aren't on their site. The nice lady that answered the phone said no they didn't but were in the process to make wider wrenches that will be available soon. In the mean time I bought some tension wrenches off of Sparrows site and cut them to fit in the pen.
@911fbi22 жыл бұрын
@@alaneubanks is it top of the key way was able to fit more keyways? Or a bottom of the keyway
@alaneubanks2 жыл бұрын
@@911fbi2 the wrenches that come with it are all bottom of the key way and really thin (they slip out of place in master locks). What I bought from Sparrows to fit in the nps2000 are also bottom of the key way (level 2 tension set). You can SPP with it though it's a bit more difficult. I've since purchased all of Sparrows top of key way wrenches and am starting to dabble into other kits and different pick profiles. The nps2000 is a great starter kit for not alot of money if you get wider wrenches. Now I use it at work because people lock us out of our legal utilities right of ways and it fits in my pocket nicely
