Jeremy Irons was so good as Brom, it's a shame everything else about the movie was terribly done. The books deserve a damn good adaptation and I hope we see it someday.

And yet he missed the single most important aspect. It takes as much energy to do a task by magic, as it would by mundane means

@@Abrokenswordactually in the book magicians can draw energy from sources around them , including living beings. Hence they can perform physically impossible tasks by magic
@Abrokensword
@Abrokensword 9 ай бұрын
@davidesguario2151 I'm aware of that caveat, and even taking that into consideration, there are several instances where characters accomplish feats of magic that completely defy the rule of equal energy exchange. Also keep in mind drawing energy from living sources was not a common technique known to every and any magician. Oromis was insistent that Eragon keep that and many other techniques a secret even from the magicians of the Varden. Yet we see magicians of the Varden do things with magic that should be fatal to them on more than one occasion.

I'd argue that the most important thing is that every person has a True Name and knowing that Name gives you power over that person.

@@jackcrofts-mullin461 And I would go so far as to say I would recommend *Eragon* but I would never recommend the rest. Paolini is a mediocre writer. The whole thing is unoriginal, but the first is quite inspired, and consistent, and brief enough as to not feel like a waste of time. All else lacks that certain spark. It's a rehash of something that wasn't all that great to begin with. It holds nostalgic value, and introduced a new generation to high fantasy. But there is such a high selection of it, any tale put down in print could have done the same job.

I notice just about everyone holds every single omission or thing this movie changed from its source material against it, and exaggerates. This same level of scrutiny was not brought to adaptations of Roald Dahl or Jo Rowling's work, which came further from their source materials than this film did. Was there anyone who saw this film who wasn't an insane fanboy?

If a proper adaptational movie series was done for the Inheritance series, it could’ve been right up there in the league with the fantasy series like Harry Potter and Middle-Earth. This was a pretty good world-building scene in an otherwise awful movie adapting a book.
@sorrowandsufferin924
@sorrowandsufferin924 2 жыл бұрын
The movie wasn't that bad. It skipped vital aspects of the first book, but that's down to funding. What really broke the movie was that the dwarves were missing completely, and that Arya left before the ending. Made a second movie impossible, unfortunately.

JBaby Lucus Correct. AND it was mentioned in the book that once a spell was cast, you can't stop. You either do and finish it or attempt to do it and die trying. It was why doing magic would be so dangerous. Because until you knew your limitations , every spell you made could potentially kill you if the spell needed more power then what your body had.

Even in the book you can say the word without using the spell attached to it. You have to deliberately command the word through the language for the spell to work. If you just say Brisnger passively in conversation nothing will happen.
