Erasure - Gaudete (Official Video)

I listened to 4 interpretations of Gaudete . This is by far the best. Gaudete is a sacred Christmas carol, thought to have been composed in the 16th century. It was published in Piae Cantiones, a collection of Finnish/Swedish sacred songs published in 1581. No music is given for the verses, but the standard tune comes from older liturgical books.

This is so stunning, a marvelous twist to an ancient song, and it gets stuck in your head for days, erasure is seriously underrated, it's a travesty, they can teach these up and comers a thing or two

Very mysterious and underrated! The monks fail to bring the chruch back to life they sacrifice themselves in the form of a candle but only "a part of the picture" reemerges - even the keyboard/organ remains partially covered in snow - they can not melt the snow completely and turn winter into spring... I really had no idea ERASURE had such deeply christian messages inside of them... what a great way to make friends with christmas

Erasure have not disappointed. I have loved their music since like forever. This song is close to the original medieval carol, Good to see that the best band ever have given it a modern twist, without taking out the meaning.

To all who hate the percussion, the original has it written in. To all who hate the Latin, get an education, it's the original. To all who hate the pronunciation, Latin is a dead language, and any 'correct' pronunciation is only a surmise at best. To those who think that it is sacrilege, it is faithful to the original, so where is the sacrilege? To those of you who feel it necessary to tear others down, I must ask, why? Why? this is why Erasure were a great band in the late 80's and early 90's, they were always quirky and progressive almost, sadly these are qualities that have been missing from their crappy 'club' music for the last few albums. This is Erasure back at their best doing what they do best.

I love the Snow Globe album, they haven't sounded so much like Erasure for a long time. Andy sings beautifully throughout and hte production is flawless. I love how the whole projevt is cutesy-kitsch and dark and quirky at the same time. And the Deluxe boxset is so lovingly made. The cocktail book is fun (will be making my Blue Savannah soon), the postcards are gorgeous and I love the calendar with all the important Erasure events o it. Well done guys!

You can also hear the difference in the demo version of Searching (for a better love) and compare it with the final product. The demo is classic Erasure, strong chorus in which it sounds like Andy really believes what he sings... and no cheap consumer synth default sounds to make it sound more 'in'. Urgh.
