Great video, however the ADF needle at minute 5:00 to 5:15 is pointing in the opposite/wrong direction. It should really be pointing to the right of the nose (about 15 degrees to the right of the N).

@@KesariyaVilayti If the wind correct has you pointing 20 degrees left of your track, as you fly over the station it will be 20 degrees to the right of the nose of the plane, so the needle would be pointing 20 degrees right of your heading.

The description of how basic GPS works is wrong. The GPS receiver in the plane doesn't know the current time, since that would require an expensive and delicate atomic clock installed in the receiver. Rather, the receiver subtracts the time received from two different satellites to determine the difference in distance. Given 4 satellites (and thus 6 different distance differences), the receiver can then solve a system of simultaneous equations to get the actual distance from each satellite, and then use the ephemeris data to calculate its position in space. GPS is used by other satellites to track their own position, but if GPS actually generated two possible positions and then discarded the one in space, that wouldn't be possible. Other than that, though, I thought this was a very informative and well-done video. Thanks.

Very nice videos, as usual. Just one question... (refer to minute 5:00 of the video). Shouldn't the ADF needle be pointing to a relative bearing of (lets say) 020, as the airplane is compensating for the wind coming from the left, thus leaving the station slightly to the right of our heading? All best!

1:05 - - Ground Waves, Sky Waves, Space Waves 1:15 - - *GROUND WAVES* - - lower frequency waves that travel close to earth’s surface + follow the earth’s curvature. The *LOWER* the frequency - - the *FARTHER* the signal will travel. 1:27 - - They travel reliably + predictably + are *NOT INFLUENCED BY OUTSIDE FACTORS* 1:37 - - *SKY WAVES* - - higher frequency waves that can also travel long distances. 1:58 - - *SPACE WAVES* - - 2:36 - - *NDB* (Non-Directional radio Beacon) - - a ground-based AM radio transmitter (transmits in all directions) 2:58 - - NDBs operate on/within the frequency range of 190 kHz - 535 kHz (190,000 - 535,000 cycles per sec); since they operate in this *LOW* to *MEDIUM* frequency band - - 3:04 - - they are NOT subjected to line-of-sight limitations of Space Waves

A local high-precision time is not kept on the GPS receiver. This would create a clock sync nightmare. Pseudo-ranging only requires relative acquired time and ephemeris.
