Evan, i totally agree with every single point of your video. After years of A-Class catamaran regattas i tried kitesurf 9 years ago. Now i am 54 an i feel yunger than when i started. It opened my mind, i found new friends, real friends. The "mind opening" effect pushed me to start snowboarding 4 years ago; i broke my wrist but it's part of the game. This year, for the first time i went off-pist an discovered how exciting is powder, and i did it with my sons. All of this is thank's ti the fact that, almost 10 years ago i started thinking about kitesurfing. Greetings from Italy🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻

My 2 year old daughter talks a lot about momma and dadda kiting. It would make my day if she ever wanted to learn and ride with us :) I used to be really big into skiing… but now I just kite because I can go all year round close to home! Thanks for sharing your story!

wow, you pointed out every single stuff i wished i knew earlier when i started. this is easily one of the best desision i made in my entire life and i'm gladd i stick with it i almost abandonned it at a certain point and i was like no i have to get going and here i am in mauritius ( one of kind country if you guys can go there i absolutly recommended it) with a lot more experience and confidence than when i started ! ( i still get a litle scared though when the wind is to strong for the size of kite that i have ! )

glad this could help! kiting definitely has been a huge positive influence in my life! i'm jealous, how is mauritius?? i'll be working on a video about how long it took me to learn and where they key challenges where to be able help people through that time more easily!

@@erbartlett honestly don’t have a word for it mauritius is one of a kind of a destination ! It also has a speciale place in my heart because it’s where i learned to kite ( and i also have family there so it helped). The people are lovely and the wind is generous espacially in winter it get dry in summer tough so i advice going around june trough september. We have shallow water wide spots like le morne which is like the place to kite in mauritius definitly my favorite spot on the island !

Great info Evan. I ordered a 3 m trainer kite yesterday. Plan to take a 2 day lesson this summer after I get some hours on the trainer. Thanks!

Exciting! One thing that I think is important is noticing that the faster the kite moves, the more power it generates. As you get comfortable with the trainer, take not of it because it’ll help you later. The other thing, once you get the basics down is to walk to the left and walk to the right while keeping the trainer parked facing that direction, as if you were riding that way. That will also help you prep for lessons

Thanks for the video. You said that you live in Brooklyn and there’s good kiting within 20 min? Can you tell us some specific locations? I have a sister who just moved to Brooklyn last year. Would love to know my kiting options when I go visit. Specifically if they’re well suited for foiling.
@erbartlett2 жыл бұрын
Plumb beach is the closest, can't say if its good for foiling. There's also a spot near there called Breezy Point, but I haven't ridden there yet. I go to Tobay and Gilgo the most which are a bit further, and both can work for foils.

Excellent advice. Just starting myself aged 58. Everybody is friendly for sure. On the initial steep learning curve but can see it starting to come together already. Next session with the board as school says I'm ready. Can't wait for the buzz! Bought all 2nd hand stuff too and it's fine. For sure don't be intimidated, just learn it properly with the instructor and remember to respect the water. Thanks from a reinvigorated irish sailor!

One of best reasons is if you are single and want a girlfriend, there is at least one girl on the beach looking at you and wants to talk. Also if you are introverted and want to make friends it’s an easy way or at least gets you to socialize for a few hours
