Great vid thanks. I bought the ESP800 after your previous vids as I needed to pain our bungalow. I used Sandtex ultra smooth and it worked great. The only thing I had to master was releasing the trigger at the end of each pass and the restarting when coming back as otherwise I put too much paint on at the ends of my arc.

Very informative video, Phil. I've watched two videos you've done now with the ESP800 HVLP Sprayer and think I'm going to buy it. It's circa €110 here, but definitely takes a fraction of the time to do a job compared to traditional brush method.

Hi Phil, Really enjoyed this video 👍As I've said to you before, I'm still just getting into spraying with my Wagner FC5000 and have been practicing in my own place and I agree, F &B sprays lovely. Now I have always been leaving the recommended 4 hours between coats yet you've just demonstrated that it can be applied sooner. Is this because with spraying you don't actually touch the surface like you would with brush & roller? Appreciate some feedback on this please? TIA. Keep up the good work, that 911 will come 👍

LoL it will come lol Yes. You're not touching it and only light coats that dry quickly too. It helps if there's a flow of air and some heat to dry it off. As long as it's dry enough for a light nib over with a fine sanding pad you're good to go.

Lovely video Phil, great for us diyers,, a question i would like to ask you is, whats best for painting ceilings (mist coats and top coats emulsion, the erbauer HVLP sprayer or the erbauer airless sprayer, also whats the best sprayer for skirtings ,architraves, and doors, should i buy both

Airless for large areas. Hvlp for smaller stuff where you need control. Checkout my other spray videos and see what I'm using where. Ceilings. Tikkurila AR2 Isomat ceiling paint Teknoceiling 02 LickPro Matt, ceiling/wall paint (from Screwfix)

Them pads look handy. I’ve got some right fiddly sanding to do on some kitchen units (F&B or Little Greene. Haven’t decided yet) and an old wood table (varnished, but is getting oiled) that has bits where even the Rolex won’t fit. Look just the job.

Hi Phil, i bought of these about a year ago to spray leyland emulsion and wasnt over impressed however after watching your video i believe it was human error rather than the spray equipment. I went out yesterday and purchased johnstone satin black to paint the internal doors at home, can i use this in the sprayer. Thanks in advance for taking the time to read and respond

Yes you can. Thin it though to make it spray well. Next time try AllCoat Exterior Satin that does spray nice.

I bought one of these sprayers after watching your video and on your recommendation. When I tried to spray emulsion onto the ceiling it would apply paint for a couple of seconds the it would just do air. Having looked at the gun and paint pot, the pickup pipe is angle approx 45 degrees to the front. This means when you tip the gun to spray the ceiling the pipe comes out of the paint and is in mid air. It’s not possible to angle it to the bottom of the cup. Could you please advise if I’m missing something? Great video by the way.

You should be able to swap it around. Pull it out and re fit it the other way

I’m using dulux Matt for mist coat and I bought this but I’m struggling right now. The paint sprays but goes on the wall and leaks? Is there something I’m doing wrong?

Check your seals. Make sure it's not over filled Go back to the start and follow my self up again

You can read my mind as I’ve been looking into getting into spraying after spending so long doing my house up using a paintbrush and roller. Not so bad painting walls but painting the skirting boards and doors was hard work as I was looking for perfection. I bought a cheap HVLP sprayer some years ago but really hated it. I had nothing to compare it to so I’m hoping this maybe a good alternative. I know you recommend helmi 10 but would this work with either johnstones aqua guard or Caparol PU Satin

Aqua Gaurd... Hmmmm, did you want to use it, they'd be better paints to spray with this hvlp. Caparol seem to use the Wagner spray system... So unsure how it would spray with this. It's on my YT to do list though and try.

im thinking of getting into spraying (i spray mainly furniture using f & b and frenchic) but is it worth buying the cheaper erbauer sprayer or going for it and buying a top of the range one, say a graco etc? is there a difference that justifies the extra money that you can see as you have used both ends of the price range?

Hi. Always.. buy the best you can afford. QT5 if you do a lot. But for the money... Try one of these and see how you go on. It's not a fortune if you like it and then what to upgrade to a stage 5 hvlp

Hi Not for large wall spraying. Masonry paint is quite thick so would need thinning. Proper wall spraying and airless sprayer is better

Hi, is this farrow and ball eggshell ? Would you recommend this paint for kitchen cupboards in combination with the paint sprayer or a different egg shell ? Thanks

Using farrow and ball UC and farrow and ball modern eggshell is a really good paint system. Just make sure you clean down and prep well, use a good adhesion primer first suitable for going over the type of unit you paint, before using the f&B undercoat. The sprayer will do what you need it to do. Take you time and have a practice before you do the kitchen ;)

@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator thanks for the reply. The kitchen cupboards is a Veneer finish. Would you still prepare the doors in the same way ? Light sand farrow & ball primer / undercoat then modern eggshell. This is with a 5mm nap 4 “ fussy bloke roller by the way.

@@michaelt1975 yes. You could try the 10mm nap for the UC/Primer coat. Then move on to the 5mm for the finish coats.

As a painter and decorator I Hate this love of spraying. I was offered a contract to paint a new building development . And because I refused to spray the new homes lost the contract. The irony is two years later I am back in that housing development painting the conventional way. As the walls are peeling and they have a crap finish which needs sanded down. I can understand people who aren’t experienced in painting using these sprayers A brush and a mini roller will take slightly longer. You will end up with a great finish with a brush and mini roller. With a good coat of paint. I read someone wanted to paint pebble dash. Don’t use watered down masonry paint just get a masonry roller.

@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator I work on trucks in my spare time. I know all about spray painting I have a spray booth in my cellar I use to spray truck parts. Plus the cheap sprayers aren’t worth a damn. If you want the glass like finish the spray gun itself costs around £400. I bet you wouldn’t use that sprayer to paint your car. Yet you use it for your house. Take this for example. One of my customers got quoted £5000 to get his kitchen cabinets spray painted. I nearly choked on hearing this. There was 25 cabinets doors which I took to my workshop degreased hand painted the undercoated top coated both sides of the doors with the proper cabinet paint. As a lot of spray painters only do one side of the doors. It took me five days and that’s painting the kitchen frame re fitting the doors with new handles. Plus painting the kitchen walls. I wasn’t pushed in anyway. And it cost him £2000 he and his wife were chuffed to bits and saved a fortune. The thing about spraying wood and walls is that they absorb a lot of paint. The paint won’t be absorbed as well with spraying as it’s not worked in. And I won’t compromise my quality of work for a quick fix. I’ve been painting and decorating 34 years. I spent ten of those years specialising in restoration of oak and mahogany doors and panelling. Could you imagine after spending months stripping away a hundred years of paint on oak paneling to use a hundred quid sprayer. Over the last twenty years the quality of workmanship is a disgrace. It’s a a quick fix. The thing I’ve noticed is the tradesmen who stick to their principles and work ethic and quality always have work. It might cost a bit more for the customer at the time but it’s worth it.

I think reading back at your last comment, theres a lot who have no idea, spray cus they think it's a quick way to paint and earn quick money. reality is, they have no idea about the basics and thats where it all goes to pot.

You can. But I'd spray a water based on a metal gate now. Look at Bedec and Zinsser products. Even Valspar do a metal water based paint now days.

Yes. If you go with a water based MSP paint, it'll spray fine.

The bigger air cap 2.5 and thin it. Youll spray it, not saying how well though being such a thicker paint

@@bigdude8470 I think I thinned it about 2 part paint to 1 part water. One thing to note is release the trigger when you get to the end of each pass before going back i.e if you get to the end of the travel if you don't release trigger then pull again when you come back you get too much paint when you change direction.
