Welcome to our video showing you how we created our retro lounge makeover.
We love the retro look so decided on buying Ercol furniture second hand and doing all the refurbishment ourselves.
It took a while but we got there in the end and this video is the result of all our hard work.

I have a 3 seater and 1 armchair retro Ercol suite , I love it . Found the suite in a furniture charity shop and paid less than £100 👍🏻👍🏻 I haven’t even recovered it as it’s just a light sage green with a slightly darker leaf stem pattern , but not heavily patterned . Few throws and green cushions , job done .

Ercol never dates, i love it, like you we have picked up lots of second hand 1960 pieces and renovated it, holds it’s price well.

Looks great even though I don’t like the colour scheme the ideas are looking good and the ercol furniture was another good idea making bette space.

Your living room looks great. Your husband has been very busy with the Ercol restoration. Did he use stripper to remove the lacquer off the furniture before sanding?

Hi, we actually got them covered by someone on the Isle of Wight, he did a really good job but think he’s retired now

Stunning pieces. I really want the daybed/studio couch but they're damn pricey at the moment! How much was yours?

It was a while ago that we bought it but I think it was around the £600 mark but it was in quite bad condition and we had to strip it all and glue the cracks etc and get it all re covered which was pricey.

I have lots of Ercol looks great, but the studio coach although an iconic piece is for display in a hall or something, sitting on it for a long period in a living room is not bearable. I admire your thrift.

Paul Crane your right we did have a fish tank but decided to get rid of it as it took up so much of Matts time xx

Is the day bed comfy to sit on?

We had the foam replaced with new, so it is very comfy, not sure what the original foam would have been like though, thanks for the comment.

Great job, I'm looking to buy an Erol Evergreen chair, how difficult was it to sand back from a dark colour?

I used a cabinet scraper to take all the layers of varnish and old polish off, then I went from 100 grit sandpaper up to 1500 before waxing it, it isn’t really easy but definitely worth it in the end, I would say the armchair took me approx 6-8 hrs to complete. The cabinet scraper was the key tool to reduce time and effort, using just sandpaper to start is difficult as the old polish/varnish clogs the paper up really quick.
