The hermit beetle (Osmoderma eremita) smells like peach candy and is Norway's rarest beetle! Help the researchers find it inside this hollow tree by commenting the time in the chat if you see it ❤
The researchers thought the beetle was extinct in Norway, but after it was found in Tønsberg cemetery in 2008, the researchers have monitored it closely and helped it find new places to live, such as in this hollow oak in Berg prison where it lives a quiet life.
Along the same lines as the mountain fox, the hermit is one of 13 species that have been given priority status, approved by the King in Council. These are species that are particularly threatened with extinction and receive special protection under Section 23 of the Norwegian Biodiversity Act.
