Shows features, fit, and opinions of Ergo vs Tula carriers.
**Two "oopsies!" in the video:
1. I said Finnley was "front facing", I meant "front carrying". Your baby must face you in both of these carriers :)
2. I said I was looking to replace the Tula, I meant to replace the Ergo ;)

Just a tip - if you buy directly from the Tula website, they have a "last chance" section so you can get the infants for $108 and the toddlers for $118. They also include free shipping 👍🏼

Thanks for the clear explanation of how it worked for one kid but the other kid is heavier. People make me feel like I need a Tula, but price scares me I'm not sure I need it but I do like a few prints

thanks for the review. i got a tula and absolutely love it. im not sure if you know this and skipped it just because you quickly put her in and took her out but i didnt know until someone told me to feed the waist snap through the elastic first then buckle its a safety net. the very next day i was told that and properly fastened the buckle the buckle came on done while carry my daughter hiking and the elastic held on to the buckle so she didnt fall.

+michele draper Phew! Luckily you had it fastened! I do know that step, and should have included it in the review, I was just going quickly for fit purposes. Good to point that out though! And glad you love it! :) :) :) My husband and I both love it too, he rocks the girly print ;)

Thanks for doing this! I didn't baby-wear with my first but planning to with the one I'm currently pregnant with. I will be having a c-section, do you know if that is an issue with these carriers?

+Sara Goff You're welcome! I've never heard any struggles with c-sections and baby wearing... I would assume the recovery period would prevent this, but past that, it seems like the carriers are worn higher than the incision area, so I wouldn't think it would irritate the scar area at all. I wish you luck and am glad you decided to give baby wearing a go this time around! :)

Thanks for watching! I think the Tula is a little cooler. Even though it is wider and covers more of their legs, the fabric is more breathable, especially since the ergo has that big pocket on their back which adds a layer. They do make carriers meant for warmer weather though, with a thick mesh type material. I'm pretty sure ergo has one, and I know of another brand that has like a back "window" that rolls down when they need air. I bet if you google "breathable baby carriers" stuff should pop up! 👍 let me know if you can't find it, and I can hunt down the KZbin video I saw it on. Have a fun trip!!

Great review. Thanks for it. I considered both the Tula and the Ergo but now have a Beco Gemini and a Boba 4G. Did you consider either by chance? I loooove the Boba.
@ellenv.s.4913

Expand-a-Family Those were the other two carriers I considered! ;) I didn't want the Beco bc I didn't want to mess with the cross straps, and I wanted a sleeping hood. And we tried on a Boba but Fiona and I both didn't like it. They are really pretty though! Glad you found one that works well for you :)

Has Fiona's dad tried to use the carriers? I am interested in which one is more comfortable for men. Trying to find anything on men baby wearing is really difficult. My wife had a c section is still having difficulty wearing. I am currently using a mei tie, but it won't be much longer before my son out grows it.

+David Klatt My husband strongly did not like the Ergo, but loves the Tula. When we used the Ergo he wouldn't really wear our son because he found it really uncomfortable, but he wears our daughter often in the Tula because he says it is super comfortable for him. He's 5'10" about 150 with broad shoulders if that helps! I hope your wife heals quickly either way :)

Do you think carrying your child for a long period of time will hurt her legs/thighs? It seems like their legs are stretched. I want to get the Tula because I've seen many good reviews on them but I've noticed their legs are spread far apart. Want to know if it will hurt my 3 month old.
@ellenv.s.4913
@ellenv.s.4913 9 жыл бұрын
I didn't get a chance in the video to properly adjust Fiona's legs when she was in the Tula. Their legs should be able to bend and hang down (not out) when they are in the carrier. They make infant inserts for when babies are younger and still have their legs tucked up like frogs inside the carrier. I would think the average 3 month old would be too small to ride properly with their legs out.

This video is very helpful! I have a Bijorn original and a Bijorn WE and I used them just fine with my son who is now 2. I have a new baby and I was looking for other options. I also have a moby/ktan/mei tai and my friends rave about the Tula. I also am not into the whole competitive/overpriced discontinued models, I'm going to buy retail if I chose the Tula.

I'm going to have a baby boy in March and need to fly with him down to Florida in April when he's a month old. Can a 1 month old fit in a Tula without an insert? Thanks!
@ellenv.s.4913
@ellenv.s.4913 8 жыл бұрын
No, you'd need an insert with a soft structured carrier with a baby that young. It's not until they can comfortably splay their legs around your stomach and have good head control that they can be in without. When they are young like that their legs are always tucked in like a little frog, and that's the position you should carry them in. I'd recommend a wrap, like a moby style, or purchasing a newborn insert 😀 with babies that young I preferred the wrap to the insert though, they just felt more secure in there when they were so tiny and fragile.

Hi :) The Tula insert is for babies 7-15lbs. So you are fine without it! I can't remember how old Fiona was in this video. Probably around 7 months. She will be 3 in November and still fits in the same standard size tula!

I've read that the Ergo Orginal can get really hot? Was that your experience? Does the Tula get as hot?
@ellenv.s.4913
@ellenv.s.4913 9 жыл бұрын
+Mandy Martin I never saw this comment come through, sorry! I think any soft structured carrier that is not made of mesh would get hot, but heat never prevented me from wearing either of my kids in the summer with either carrier. I don't think the Ergo gets any hotter than the Tula in my experience.

Hello, I know this is way late on this video, but I was wondering... Did you ever back carry with these carriers? Baby girl is 6 months old and is pretty much over being carried in front. I'm curious if you'd feel the same way about the back carries as you do the front carries with these two?
@ellenv.s.4913

DeeDee Scarberry Hi😊 I actually still back carry both my 2 and 5 year old for hikes when they get tired. For me, the Tula is much more comfortable on the back. I feel like they are hanging off me in the ergo, so I have my husband wear that one😉

DeeDee Scarberry And it's been a while since I had a baby, but I think the recommendation is to wait until more like 9-12 months to back carry. I'd look into that if I were you 😀
