I'm not a MHA fan but from what I understand Eri's quirk is an accumulation type storing energy and her releasing it all when she uses her rewind. The horn itself shouldn't be the source of the quirk itself but a byproduct with it growing and shrinking based on how much she's accumulated. Her quirk isn't gone the horn might grow back or she'll still be able to use her quirk without a horn

So its a part of her quirk factor. Think of itthis way, you have genetics that determine your quirk (im no doctor idk how it works) and an activation factor. For example Overhaul needs his hands, Aizawa his eyes, mics vocal chords. Eri has her horn, which im guessing is basically like a giant battery. She probably can still rewind, but she would probably have to stand there and maintain contact for however long she needs to rewind. Kinda hard to say because when her quirk gets copied Monoma cant use it at all, but he does grow the horn.

I bet her quirk works like hawks quirk. once hawks uses all of his feathers he can't use his quirk anymore until they grow back which takes 2 days I think in eri case she snap it off which her horn is like her quirk storage. what she did sacrifice is the ability to help anyone else in the war. Since her horn is like an animal horn it can take months to grow back. Similar to the overhaul incident she used up all of her ability and her horn faded away.

Quirk is DNA related. It’s explained in Act 3 of the story. So damaging a part of your body doesn’t harm the core of your quirk, especially when her quirk is rewind. I have a feeling that she will be able to save others like Eraser Head or even rewind One for All in Mizuku later (if the author wants happy ending)
