Both wrestlers would go on to earn All-American honors at the NCAA tournament with Eric Akin taking 2nd place and Mike Mena taking 7th.

One of the highlights of my career was wrestling Eric in a practice match at EKL. Great wrestler, and a humble man. Always courteous and respectful to my brother and myself. Local legend.
