Not to disrespect calling it "best" but man oh man, there's a particular version of Let It Rain -- and this is very, very important: not the Clapton album version, nor any version on a Clapton album; the Derek and the Dominoes In Concert album song, Let It Rain. Not the dogshit rerelease of that album either, called "Live At the Fillmore". The Derek and the Dominoes In Concert album song, Let It Rain, the 1973 release only. If that doesn't change your vote, at least you can now say so with a clear conscience! Because if it exceeds THAT song's solos it must be the top of the mountain.

As a side note, I saw Clapton years ago in Sacramento (when the Arco arena was still the Arco arena) and it was all good; it was here in the middle of the show when he strapped on "Blackie" and he launched into "Have You Ever Loved.a Woman" (being a slow, hot, electric blues---always my personal forte and my favorite style. Tell me there's a slow blues jam and I am there!). From "Derek and the Dominos" onward Clapton has never done that song wrong once he got his hooks into it and all but burned the arena down! Hell, Clapton got the place rockin' so hot my eyebrows were singed! That was such a salient moment in my life as both a consumer and an old blues guy, I will never forget neither that night and that moment, when Clapton set his Marshall to "Burn"!

@@markzuelch7452 Though I spent a big chunk of my life in Sacramento I was always on the road, train or plane to somewhere because of the slave labor I did for work. I missed his playing there, as well as -- despite driving an old VW Bus -- the Grateful Dead. When my sudden retirement came for medical reasons, a woman taught me that song for real. After I tried to drink myself to death, I bought an old Triumph motorcycle, discovered real Blues music, and became an animaI for it at every bar & club around the area. You know the drill.

There is one by Boyd where he slightly alters the words in a couple of places which in that way make it better, but I wish Clapton would do a cover of it.
