I've been listening to Clapton for a good 35+ years, maybe close to 40. One thing that really strikes me is the guy's unmatched guitar virtuoso abilities have always somewhat overshadowed the fact that he has an absolutely tremendous voice as well, and one that has remained undiminished over all the years.

tiegooo I shouldn't be so mean....I like a good shredding session (do it myself sometimes...), but I do believe it takes "more" to compose/execute a shorter solo like this....a good example of a supreme short/shred solo would be Mathias Jabs (Scorpions) on "Rock You Like a Hurricane"...

+james parker Yer right, similar, great vibe...I get a good "facsimile" Gilmour tone on my little cube amp: "rectifier" amp setting, "gain" all the way, "tone" about 7 oclock, a little slap echo + some flange, and away i go! Btw, did you know Gilmour played lead on McCartney's "No More "lonely Nights"? It adds some nice metal "crunch" to one of Macca's "silly love songs", lol!

Yes, clearly Clapton's best video. It's from the WB/Polygram compilation "The Cream of Eric Clapton". What a lineup! Veteran Marcy Levy on vocals, the gifted Tim Renwick on guitar, Porcaro on drums, and the best rock bass player ever, Donald Dunn, from Booker T and the MGs. It doesn't get any better than this.

I always wondered about that camera dropping off the mount @2:42. The one guy is freaking out, backing away slowly with his hands on his head, another looks like he’s going to just make a run for it while the rest look on in horror. Someone must have received a stern talking to. From an L.A Times article the following year (Oct. 1986) regarding Panavision camera rental rates and value: “Through dealers or on its own, Panavision rents out equipment for between $3,500 and $25,000 a week. A middle-of-the-road system that costs about $7,000 a week is worth more than $1 million, Farrand said.” www.google.com/amp/s/www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1986-10-14-fi-3313-story.html%3f_amp=true

This is Clapton's come back song. After his fall from Cream, Blind Faith, Derek and the Dominos he hit bottom and produce mediocre albums that I wouldn't take if you gave them to me. Then one day some of my musician friends and I were at a bar and on the TV Eric appeared to play this song. We all just stood there wondering what kind of crap he produced this time and to our incredible surprise he was "back". Clapton had returned from the grave. That guitar solo clinched it. That was the Clapton sound. We all celebrated his return to playing again.
@Johlibaptist13 жыл бұрын
As some modern Cockneys, using their rhyming slang, would say, Slowhand is "the dog's Jackson Pollacks on the guitar." Over the years he has made lots of bread (and honey), but EC has had many a problem his the trouble and strifes. And losing his son was a bitter, body blow. Through his pain we have gained great music.
@jubeegrooves211 жыл бұрын
Yes, Jeff Porcaro did, barely see him (0:39) for a second. At least we can hear him. ;-) He also did another track, 'See what love can do', from same album. (Behind The Sun) RIP Jeff

While I wouldn't call this a "classic," it's still a great pop song, and it does showcase Clapton's guitar AND vocal talents well. Consider this an appetizer to his more classic songs.

Such a cool song with the late Jeff Porcaro on the drums. This song also foreshadowed his most Pop/Rock sound which was on the next album (August) a year later.

Yeah, Duck Dunn was Eric's bassist at the time. He played bass on a couple of Eric's albums and tours, though on this particular track, I think that's actually Nathan East you're hearing. And for what it's worth, the other guitarist is Tim Renwick, who played with Eric on Roger Waters' Pros And Cons Of Hitchhiking tour, then later played on the last couple Pink Floyd tours. There's only two musicians who toured with Waters solo and with the post-Waters Pink Floyd, and Tim is one of them.

I remember seeing Eric in concert supporting the release of behind the sun album it was on Seattle in mid to late 1980s and I and my best friend were young 20 somethings. Everytime I hear this music i begin to cry from the loss of my friend who lost his battle with leukemia in 2016. It will be 40 years ago I met him labor day weekend 1979 and later became a lead guitar player with our band. God how i miss him and all that he taught me as a big brother in spirit. I pray for God's love and mercy to watch over us all and remember our lives. Goodbye my friend now you can rest in peace. I miss you Curt, your little brother with love Kevin.

One of the most succesful songs ever written by one the finest guitar players/ songwriters the world has ever known. Jerry Lynn Williams of Fort Worth, Texas. The searing tone of Clapton's guitar is but a remnant of the way Jerry played it.
