This guy is one of the most beautiful yet tortured souls I’ve ever known of. It is astonishing that he’s still with us. Thank God that he is, and that he finally found himself.

JoPa GeRi I’ve often thought the same myself. Many consider Clapton a repugnant human, (see his lathered up, anti-black tirades during the mid 70’s, his alleged mistreatment of his wife, among other incidents) but I’ve come to see him as just another human being who is simply doing the best that they can do having lived a live of intense, hidden grief. The shear number of untimely losses of friends/family in his life is pretty staggering. I can’t honestly say that I respect many of his statements or sentiments, but at the same time I can’t help but see him as a battered, hurting soul. His tunes are pretty solid, too.

I saw Clapton in 1974 at the Capital Center in Washington DC. It was an incredible concert. At the end, he walked off the stage and stepped right into an ambulance. He had played two hours on an overdose of heroin. No doubt, his brain was not present, but his fingers had little brains inside them. And he finished the show.

Clapton kicked out heroin completely in 1973, through an electro-acupuncture method. In 1974 he was sunk in alcohol and other drugs, mostly cocaine and marijuana.

That’s nonsense as he quit heroin in 72. By the time of 74 and the release of his Ocean Boulevard album he was off drugs but gaining a bad drinking habit

I saw him in Greensboro NC on the 74’ tour and he was obviously drunk. George Terry played a lot of the lead guitar. I had a balcony seat looking down and he was leaning against the organ playing rhythm guitar. He played lead but seemed content to kick back and didn’t really cut loose until Pete Townsend came out for the encore.

Nobody is God on earth except God who created the heavens and earth. No man has that power. The fact that he didn't deny the claim during the interview is considered arrogant and purely false. I have no respect for Eric Clapton. Anyway his life hasn't been perfect. He lost his child later on. That's a sorrowful tragedy.

He wasn’t a drunk as in a tramp with brown bag and cheap cider unable to speak coherently. He was a functioning alcoholic. There are many people living like that. He probably had a few beers before this show with lunch, then after it finished went for dinner with the other guests and he would have polished a bottle of wine to himself and then after dinner everyone else would have called it a night but him and maybe one or two other alcoholics would have hit a late bar and slammed shots and a gallon of beer. Went to bed and then did it all again the next day. That’s a functioning alcoholic. That’s why it’s so dangerous and deadly addiction because they don’t see anything wrong in it. Not many alcoholics actually end up on the park bench with the brown bags.

Mick Jagger makes Vowels his own way...That's how Rock is. There are times when my own accent is heard, and that is mostly when there are not a lot of vowels in a given set of words.
