This is such a sad song, Clapton wrote it about his 4 year old son that fell from a high rise window to his death. Having died so young Eric is asking the question that when he dies will his son recognise him when he arrives in heaven.

I think Stevie Ray Vaughans death was also an inspiration for the song
@brheinfeldt8 ай бұрын
@musicmaniac6124, though Eric and Stevie Ray Vaughan were touring together when Stevie Ray passed, the song was singularly about the death of his son, Conner. Eric did participate in the tribute concert for Stevie Ray and has talked about him in great detail.

In addition to tragically losing his son on March 20, 1991, there was another tragic event which occurred in his life about 7 months earlier when Stevie Ray Vaughan died in a helicopter crash after a concert he performed with Eric Clapton at in East Troy, Wisconsin. If not for a stoke of luck, it very easily could have been Eric Clapton in that helicopter that night.

This isn't the only song about Conor's death. One of Eric's close friends is drummer and singer Phil Collins. He, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford were working on the Genesis album We Can't Dance at the time, when Phil got the tragic news from a phone call. So in tribute to him, they wrote the song Since I Lost You and, with Eric's approval, included it on the album.

Please do Eric Clapton - Layla. It's a song about George Harrison's ex-wife while he was still married to her. But it wasn't enough to break the friendship, since both guys marriages to there partners at the time were falling apart.

First time I saw Clapton was with Cream in 1967. Saw him solo 6 more times thru the mid 90s. The man is simply incredible - beyond words. Even on nights when we wasn't at 100% he amazed. I have no idea how many songs I watched where I literally had tears running down my checks. He can bring that level of emotion out of you thru the message of the song or his pure talent of his play. He is simply one of a kind and one of the very best ever. I feel very lucky to have lived during the times I have. WOW !

Eric and his son Connor had spent the previous day at a fair. Eric had finally arrived at a point where he thought he could be a father to Connor. He was going to take his ex and Connor to the zoo and Connor was so excited he was bouncing off the walls. A building maintenance man arrived to fix the latching mechanism on a floor to ceiling window for safety reasons. Connor and his nanny were playing hide and seek in other rooms and his mother was getting ready for the day. Eric was arriving at the building and the nanny was stopped by the maintenance man to advise her of the safety hazard as the window was open. In that moment of inattention Connor darted out the window and fell 49 stories to his death. Eric arrived just a couple minutes later to the chaos in the household. A truly sad event.

The clips were made specifically for the music video, and were not from a movie. The original presentation of the song was on MTV's "Unplugged" Series in the early 1990s, but the clips were not used. That presentation was simply Eric, and his group playing and singing. There was a mix of songs; this song, some blues, and some pop music of the time. The is an album called "Eric Clapton Unplugged" that has the set list. My favorite album.
