Same at Chicago's Auditorium Theater in 1970. The lineup was English band Toe Fat opening the show, followed by Elton John, and finally, Derek and the Dominos closing things out.

A super under-appreciated Clapton duet. Note that blues artist Shannon Curfman does a brilliant rendition of this (with the great Joe Bonamassa). It is very much worth a listen. She is one of the most under-appreciated artists I have ever known of. When you play blues and jazz, you often end up unknown despite talent level.

Clapton is a monster in the music industry. Yardbirds, Cream, Blind Faith, Derek and the Dominoes, etc. He's played with Jimmy Page, George Harrison, the Beatles, Joe Cocker, Taj Mahal, Bob Dylan, Sting, Dr. John, Leon Russell, Phil Collins, The Band, Aretha Franklin, Buddy Guy, BB King, Brian Wilson, Santana, Howlin Wolf, on and on. Has put out over 60 albums, appeared as a guest artist on dozens more, and sold over 100 million albums worldwide. A true powerhouse.

461 Ocean Blvd was written after Eric got off heroine. The album title came from where he was living at that time. His hard riffs were evolving into a more mellow sound. He too was evolving. Love this!! But he will always be guitar God to me. His music is the fabric of my life! This span is when he got more into raggè music, and he loved JJ Cale. Keep diving.✌🏼

Clapton is never afraid to try a new sound or bring another artist into the spotlight on a song. The lady in the duet was extraordinary. Like Airplay Beats, Clapton doesn't, put himself in a box - he's open to try what he feels. Nice deep cut, guys. Thank you.

Clapton was a racist who objected to Jack Bruce's beautiful black girlfriend. Clapton surrounding himself later with great black studio musicians to try to fix his image resulted in a second career. Not quite up to Cream standards, but Clapton owes it to his black band mates that he got that second chance.

At the time EC was making albums with softer ballad-like songs and people were asking "Where is God?" (What he was called when he first appeared in England as THE guitar virtuoso--along with his good friend with Jimi H.). Then he put out this album with this song embedded in it kind of saying--Ah, I'm here. His guitar work here is full of so much swagger. The first solo after the first sax solo is fiery in phrasing and tone. On the second solo that takes the song out that comes after the second sax solo he us playing with the tone and the wah-wah pedal--and if you give it another listen--at the end of the second sax solo you can hear EC absolutely chomping at the bit to blow in there with is solo--like a thoroughbred pawing the ground right before the gate opens. Saw him in 1977 just after this came out and was supporting this album and he was on fire--these songs and lots of old blues songs (and Derek and the Dominoes songs, too).

I know you two appreciate great music and Eric Clapton is what many guitar players measure themselves by. Why don't you go back to Clapton's roots when he exploded on the scene with his band Cream? His bass player and drummer in that band were also considered arguably among the best in their arena. Cream was blowing everyone away when they exploded on the scene in the late 60's and early 70's. They were so legendary that people yearned for decades to once again hear these rock legends again as they were all still active and able to replicate their former work in 2005 in their reunion concerts at the Royal Albert Hall in London. They did 3 nights for 15 million dollars and it was the talk of the music business during that time. I knew people who bought as many tickets as they could get and flew to London just to witness the miracle that was about to unfold for all their fans. Their earlier concerts were epic as they toured America in the late 60's and their reunion was able to be replicated plus, the video's and sound recordings in 2005 were so much better that it became the talk of Pop music when it happened. I think you would enjoy this material.

The other guitarist is George Terry from Florida,he played in Air supply for a number of years. That bad ass sax player is Mel Collins ,he's played with everyone including king crimson, the stones, humble pie,Eric Clapton, his most famous sax solo is from Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty. Another great Clapton deep cut you really should listen to is Key to the Highway off of the Derek and the Dominos album. It a classic jam between to truly great guitarists that almost didn't get recorded. The first version he did was in 1970 on Derek and the Dominos' Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs. The song started as an impromptu studio jam that Clapton and fellow Domino Duane Allman started after hearing Sam the Sham playing it in a different studio next door. The Dominos' record producer, Tom Dowd, quickly told the engineers to record. Because the band had already been playing when they started recording, the song opens with a fade-in on the album. Here's a link to the song kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGTHiGh8a6x-itU
